Revitalizing actinobacteria research: an urgent response to the antimicrobial resistance crisis - Natural Products and Bioprospecting Abstract The crisis of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is escalating while the antibiotic pipeline remains stagnant. Our bibliometric analysis of eight decades of literature reveals a critical imbalanc...

Research into filamentous actinomycetes, the antibiotic producers, is in steep decline. Loads of natural products chemistry research worldwide but not much aimed at understanding their biology and ecology. The latter is key to unlocking their specialised metabolism

Delighted to see the main work from my PhD finally published in @mbio.bsky.social! It all started with the observation that deleting the cutRS two-component system in S. venezuelae caused this amazing explorer phenotype in the presence of glucose. But what was going on?! (1/n)

The conserved two-component systems CutRS and CssRS control the protein secretion stress response in Streptomyces

Very happy to see this remarkable work published. Led by @tommclean.bsky.social and @ainsley-beaton.bsky.social. We show how Streptomyces bacteria sense & respond to misfolded secreted proteins. A great collaboration with @barriewilks.bsky.social

Need a winter warmer? Groundbreaking gene-edited tomato soup trial with higher levels of 'Sunshine' vitamin recruiting now - Quadram Institute Human trial of gene edited food, to understand whether biofortifying tomatoes in this way leads to higher levels of vitamin D in the blood

If successful, the ViTaL-D Study would be a step towards using biofortified tomatoes to overcome a growing global problem of vitamin D deficiency ๐ŸŒŽ

This step forward is of particular interest to people who follow a plant-based diet because vegan sources of vitamin D are nearly non-existent ๐ŸŒฟ

Beyond Immunity: Uncovering the Hidden Diversity of Bacterial NLRs (SCHLIMPERT_J26DTP) | Doctoral Training Partnership Join us in exploring the hidden functions of ancient immune proteins in bacteria. Bacteria, like plants and animals, have evolved sophisticated systems to detect and respond to threats.

We have a PhD opportunity available in our group @johninnescentre.bsky.social through the NRP Doctoral Training Partnership. Help us uncover the Hidden Diversity of Bacterial NLRs.

Start date: October 2026. For more information and how to apply๐Ÿ‘‰ biodtp.norwichresearchpark.ac.uk/projects/bey...
