Arresting the decline in the fertility rate is possible but it must be a deliberate choice. The alternative shouldn’t be an option.

The economic contribution of the Health Care and Social Assistance sector is undervalued given that 'economic growth' contributes little to Tas Govt revenue. Need to rethink economic contribution to include the circular economy and that investment in community services is investment in the economy.

5 largest employing industries are: health care and social assistance (46.8K), retail (29.7K), education and training (25.5K), public administration and services (22.8K) and accommodation and food services (20.6K).

Of the 51K new jobs since 2014, 15.3K were in Health Care and Social Assistance (49%⬆️) which is 30.1% of all new jobs. 8.7K in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (84.2%⬆️) and 6.4K in Public Admin. The reality is that for all age groups apart from those 45 to 69 years, more people are leaving Tasmania than arriving here to live. Since 2021 on ave.13K arrive and 16K depart each year with a net loss of 2.7K. Whole families are leaving. The reasons are likely multifactor and personal. #politas

This is incredibly short-sighted given serious mismatch in housing demand and supply.
