Thomson Reuters is best known for its media outlet and legal research tools, but it is also a huge data broker that provides investigative tools to the government, including ICE. Its Minneapolis workers aren't happy about that:

Didn't think so! I more meant that I was not listening to Fugazi in 1991 but I was also a lonely gulf war opponent
This is where our slight age gap comes into play. I think I first heard them in 1993?
But really, this is what I most can't stop thinking about:

I'm on a panel today at 4pm EST - uwindsor-law.libcal.com/event/4000495 As I'm collecting my thoughts on all this I'm finding it wild how quickly Indigenous resistence movements get memory-holed here in Canada. With generative "AI" I fear this is getting even worse as everything gets "summarized"
My only disappointment is Sweet and Low, which loses some of the melancholy/achiness of the album version. Something about the more prominent bass line is too distracting.
I remember that too but even the shitty fifth-hand dupes I heard in the nineties always sounded at least interesting, if not good. Hearing it properly now, Albini's is heavier and rawer than the album version, but some songs sound incredible (e.g. the last minute of Rend It).
Yup. Well worth a listen...
As a followup, it's notable that many of the accounts who insist Canada's economic future will collapse as a result of the Cowichan court ruling don't have similar panicked memes based on activities of Alberta separatists despite results like these www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
Taking advantage of fake spring to walk around and listen to the Albini version of In On the Killtaker. Still figuring out what I think but damn what a gift in the midst of so much horror fugazi.bandcamp.com/album/albini...
New piece with Tia Dafnos and Emma Bainbridge in @breachmedia.ca: The paramilitary pipeline police strike again. Now so clearly organized as a permanent counter-insurgency formation, here's what the Critical Response Unit (aka C-IRG) has been up to: breachmedia.ca/a-notorious-...
Up until last week, Ontario’s “special economic zones” legalized by Bill 5 were about reducing regulatory red tape.
After Doug Ford appeared at the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada conference, it’s less clear what “special” circumstances we’re talking about.
"History is consistent: sustainable freedom is built by people who organize, strike, write, teach, and resist—not by foreign jets, sanctions regimes, or crowns," writes Sima Atri.
"Iranians deserve more than a choice between destruction and dictatorship."
My latest for @grist.org: Pipeline giant Enbridge will pay for police to respond to potential Indigenous-led protests as it begins construction of the controversial Line 5 reroute around the Bad River reservation

Everything is bleak but I keep finding myself giggling about the handful of people who watched this week's SNL without having seen Heated Rivalry and who must've been really confused about the random guy who kept popping up to absolutely rapturous applause

Carl and Olliver Henry nearly got evicted by their corporate landlord for being one penny short on a rent payment.
It’s part of a bigger pattern: Black tenants are being targeted for eviction by Toronto’s corporate landlords, who are intent on raising rents and remaking the city.

Oh, talking about Palestine is too fucking 'sectarian' is it? Why should Gaza be an issue in Gorton and Denton?
To quote myself, Adam Hanieh and @rafeefz.bsky.social:
It's almost like the BC government is already acting like DRIPA doesn't matter anymore...
One side unilaterally and hastily deciding what Indigenous rights may or may not mean is just peak settler colonial

i don't know man. how could partying in vegas with flavor flav possibly top this?
Transport Minister: "the things that are controllable, I expect VIA Rail to control."
Well that oughta do it. Why increase funding or legislate passenger rail priority when you can just... vibe?

Good. It's called backbone. And the men's team is "showing their ass" by agreeing to celebrate at the White House after this jackass mocked the women's team. They are a national embarrassment now and they can go kick rocks. www.huffpost.com/entry/usa-wo...
