I keep thinking about how many lawyers must've worked on these pleadings and yet this utter ethical failure of an argument made it in there...

Kwikwetlem First Nation filed a land claim in 2016 including the Riverview lands | Globalnews.ca The land in question covers several publicly-owned parcels in Port Coquitlam and Coquitlam, including the Riverview lands, but not private properties.

The Cowichan hysteria keeps getting dumber. Now cities are coming out to make statements about old land claims - if the news is going to cover it, they should mention it's been on the First Nation's website for nearly a decade. It's not some big secret. 1/2 globalnews.ca/news/1153572...

The Oil Tanker Ban That Dims Alberta’s Pipeline Hopes | The Tyee The law is six years old. But federal promises to protect BC’s north coast from spills date back decades.

BC's premier compared Alberta/Sask oil pipeline plans to "a couple tourists wearing sandals wandering into the woods on the North Shore."

Here's a map of those deep, dark woods β€” my deep dive on 50 years of fighting oil transportation on BC's north coast. @thetyee.ca

β€˜We could have asked ChatGPT’: students fight back over course taught by AI Staffordshire students say signs material was AI-generated included suspicious file names and rogue voiceover accent

I've said it before and I will say it again many times, people using "AI" to design and deliver 'teaching' to students, to mark their work, and in this case to (!) generate literal voice overs are risking their jobs, and frankly they *should* be at risk if they do this sort of thing:

He said border agents told him they needed to determine whether he and his wife were a national security threat to Canada.

β€œThat never happened to me in my long life,” said Falk. Thursday also happened to be his 95th birthday, he said.

The government of Canada needs to directly address why a 95 year old human rights expert and former UN Special Rapporteur was treated as a threat to national security for coming to speak about Israeli genocide.
