New semester, new bluesky account!
We start this new semester at UNAM welcoming new and current students of the Genomic Sciences Undergraduate Program at UNAM in Juriquilla!
New blog post! In which I explain the issue with mediation analysis and sketch out one way to deal with the underlying causal inference problem -- in just a bit over 1,000 words!
If you have never found the time to read up on this, now is your chance.

Looking without bias is very hard to do. We want to “let the data do the talking” but data must be interpreted against backgrounds that are not bias-free.
I want to tell you about an experiment showing how when looking at a plot, we come with bias that frames our perception.🧵⬇️
This is superior to the Simpsons paradox example I used to use in my class. ( Gotta update some slides now...)

We are thrilled to announce that we have a new @posit.co Starter Pack, thanks to @jeremy-data.bsky.social!
Find and follow Posit people here: go.bsky.app/RxAPkGi
I made a starter pack full of statistical genetics (adjacent) scientists. it covers all flavours of behaviour, psychiatric, social science and population genetics people. One click follow all of em! let me know if I missed key people!
Starter Packs feels a bit like making a mixtape to this 80s kid...
I ran into the max number pretty fast so apologies to anyone I missed and I'll have to make a Volume II!: go.bsky.app/2ZUFQtv
Note, 'Subscribing' to a block list does what you want it to do, with the option to mass block or mute.
🚨🪅 Registration is NOW OPEN for our Symposium on Ancient Pathogen Genomics! 🦠🧬 Join us on April 12-13 2025 in Juriquilla, Mexico. Featuring top speakers & great science in a beautiful venue! Plz RT !

Why support platforms that support misinformation and hate? We vote on ballots, with $, our feet, and our posts.
This is why we all set up profiles last year.
Hi everyone!
Here's a starter pack of genomics scientists trained in Mexico 🇲🇽 including from #LCG-UNAM #LCG-EJ-UNAM undergrads, #RMB / #NNB-UNAM / @cdsbmexico.bsky.social workshops, and more
It's in an early stage and I'm trying to get more to join us here at #AcademicSky

LOOK AT THIS FIGURE: human cell types by count and biomass.
80% of the cells in your body are Red Blood Cells (RBCs), meaning a statistically "average" human cell contains no DNA. Nuclei are the EXCEPTION, not the rule.
From a biomass perspective, muscle myocytes are half your cellular mass.
A very well written story about the Calling Bullshit course I teach with @jevinwest.bsky.social at the UW.
