Erroll Southers, a controversial appointment to the LAPD commission, was approved by the LA City Council today.
But it was done in an unusual way -- it was allowed to run out the clock by the council failing to do anything by today's deadline to act on.

Mayor Bass has now confirmed in a statement that she asked that SB 423, which would cap the Measure ULA "mansion tax," be continued so that it can be reintroduced in January.
The tax has been a source of funding for affordable housing, and programs to protect tenants.
