This can get tricky especially in social work settings where a CM is required to make a report that they know will involve police, especially when the victim has police-related trauma. But I was shocked to hear Kiara say they canβt report without proof. Thatβs wrong, & itβs a dangerous misconception

Folks feeling like they need proof of suspected abuse before reporting contributes to a lack of reporting. Again, it is not the responsibility of the reporter to prove the validity of the claim.

I watched e7 of The Pitt last night so just a reminder itβs not a mandatory reporterβs responsibility to prove abuse/neglect, but it IS their job to report any and all suspected cases. Permission from supervisors is not needed to report. Mandatory reporters report, & the investigators investigate.

I like them but I canβt pay attention to the story and whatever Iβm doing, unless itβs a mindless thing like taking a shower or riding the bus. Maybe when I get more experienced with crochet I can handle an audio book at the same time though!

Itβs wild that we *know* DJT has suggested deporting protestors and yet people are *still* posting protest videos with fully identifiable, unblurred faces. Stop it! Youβre putting people in danger.

An image with 4 book covers showing what I read this month:
1. Severance by Ling Ma
2. Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado
3. The Invisible Life of Addie Larue by V.E. Schwab
4. Not A Lot of Reasons To Sing, But Enough by Kyle Tran Myhre
I know the month isnβt over yet, but I also know I wonβt finish another book until February. So, hereβs what I read in January.

Youβre welcome. If I hear anything different, Iβll let you know. Weβve already had 3 all-staff emails in the past week to assuage fears about executive orders coming out, and Iβm sure weβll have many more in the coming months. They want to exhaust and terrify us - letβs try not to let them. π

I work in Medicaid. Weβve been told that the funding pause will not stop Medicaid payments. And Medicare (which is similar but different than Medicaid) is explicitly excluded from the pause, too. This is confusing and scary, but I think currently not a cause for total panic (tbd) π₯΄

The "first they came..." poem gets quoted and quoted and quoted and quoted and you know what, we do in fact know who they're coming for first, right now, and that is trans people, and the answer needs to be "absolutely the fuck not, you motherfuckers," full stop.

Text from the book mentioned above that reads:
1. Everyone has a story. No matter who you are or where you come from, everyone has a story, and every story matters. If we're going to survive, it will be because we listen to each other's stories.
2. We take care of everyone. Even when it's hard. Even when it seems like some don't deserve it. Even when some having enough means others having a little less than a lot. We are a free people, but freedom doesn't mean anything when children are hungry.
3. The basic stuff: don't murder each other. No one is better than anyone else. Share food and resources. Everyone's bodies belong to themselves. Listen to each other. When a problem comes up, we figure it out, together.
4. We don't have to be the same to be able to work together. We don't even have to like each other. How people dress, worship, love, speak, or whatever else, is up to them. So do your thingβas long as your thing doesn't hurt other people. If that isn't clear enough, again: we figure it out, together.
5. Dance, make music, write poetry, draw pictures, eat good food, love each other.
I started reading Not A Lot of Reasons to Sing, But Enough by Kyle Tran Myhre this morning and⦠yes, this part (no spoilers!). Music, art, love, joy, dancing, happy moments are resistance. (shout out @calvinrosscarl.bsky.social for prompting me to read this one)

A small white Pomeranian-mix dog wears a red hoodie while facing the camera. On his right, a big white golden retriever-mix dog sits with his back to the camera. He is looking over his shoulder at the camera, like a model. He is wearing a matching red hoodie, with the buc-eeβs logo visible (the logo is a cartoon beaver face wearing a red hat inside a yellow circle).
I finally made it to Buc-ees and bought the boys matching hoodies.
