Both endings are "happy" and come with their own bitter aftertaste. A loud sigh of relief and peace followed by a haunting echo. Absolutely phenomenal and most likely will be my GOTY.

I cannot emphasize enough how beautifully written both of Expedition 33's endings are and how clear it is that neither is right or wrong. A story with no heroes or villains, only victims. If I were Maelle I'd do what she did, if I were Verso or Renoir I'd do what they did too.

Man I love Final Fantasy. I take for granted how unique it is. My favourite entries can go from modern soap opera in a futuristic world to southeast asian-inspired cultures to dark medieval fantasy political drama then to cosmic existential epics. It's endless. There is no final.
