TL;DR: Bird flu is infecting animals in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. There have been 70 confirmed and 7 probable human cases. 95% of human cases were from exposure to infected animals. There is not yet evidence of human to human transmission

CDC's NCHHSTP has lost its labs that track antibiotic resistance and potential outbreaks for diseases like gonorrhea, syphilis, TB, and hepatitis. This isn't a void communities can easily fill. CBOs should increase condom distribution + testing programs and partner services.
TIL there's only ONE antibiotic left that is effective in treating gonorrhea. And the #RIF at #CDC eliminated the only lab in the nation that monitors antibiotic resistance. We also lost our labs that monitor outbreaks of STDs, Hepatitis, TB, and other infectious diseases.
Dear CDC friends. Today was the most foolish of April Fool's days. We have not just lost jobs. With entire teams and offices being cut, we have lost vast amounts of institutional knowledge. Take the time you need to grieve. Then join your fired colleagues in the fight.

Today is the day I cried. The destruction of HHS and the CDC; the failson in charge of it all; the overwhelming loss of so many brilliant, dedicated people; the cruelty and disrespect with which it was done.
Tomorrow is the day this profound sorrow renews my motivation.
The gutting of HHS and the CDC will literally and directly lead to the sickening and deaths of millions of Americans, and many more globally. Far more than that will suffer needlessly. This is horrific.
My entire branch (Prevention Communication Branch, Division of HIV Prevention) has been eliminated, along with several other branches in DHP and global HIV. Our work literally saves lives. Our hearts are broken. But we will never stop fighting for our communities that are most-affected by HIV.
