Pleased to share a recent study from myself and @jamesckaufman.bsky.social. We used instructional prompts to guide participants through the creative problem-solving process. They improved solution creativity, and the effect was mediated by engagement.

From Nebel's "The Dark Side of Creativity" (1988): "It's always possible to look at a person or thing long and attentively enough to finally discover something no one had seen before."

I've been enjoying reading Simonton's (1984) Genius, Creativity, & Leadership. Over 40 years later, connections between economic insecurity, dogmatism and authoritarianism, and creativity are as relevant as ever.

Aligning Education with Student Needs: Lessons from Gifted and Talented Education | Current Issues in Education

This was a fun piece to write. My peer and I synthesized insights from our doctoral studies in gifted and talented education, highlighting key tensions and lessons pertinent to broader conversations about educational reform.

Is anyone aware of studies assessing the long-term influence of education on personality? Particularly interested in anything exploring whether/how graduate studies might have a lasting effect on one's personality.

Just read this lovely review of meta-analyses examining predictors of achievement in postsecondary education. Highly recommended to anyone interested in assessing the influences of different instructional strategies.

The Creativity Choice is coming out May 6. It applies the science of creativity to discuss not only how we come up with ideas, but how to do we make them happen. Never expected to be here when I started my career as a researcher.

I don't agree with claims that AI will replace teachers, but it certainly can automate a lot of menial tasks when used correctly.

I'm seeking scales for some instrument validation work. What are your preferred scales for measuring:
1) Teachers' ability to teach for creativity (self-ratings)?
2) Students' creative abilities (teacher ratings)?

Creative Subprocess Frequencies and Their Relation to Personal Characteristics and Product Creativity: Insights from a Drawing Task Think Aloud Study Most research on the creative process has focused on idea generation, and the prevalence and influence of many other creative subprocesses remain poorly understood. To clarify different subprocesses'...

Plugging some research from myself and @jamesckaufman.bsky.social, now officially out in JCB. To peer under the hood of the creative process, we analyzed think aloud data that 266 undergraduate students produced during an open-ended drawing task.

I appreciate the responses! This makes a lot of sense and sound like they'd result in a healthier balance.

Any recommendations for an early career professor on approaching end of term grading? I like to give a lot of feedback, but am realizing that providing excessive detail is not sustainable...
