We are looking for an Associate or Full Professorship in Behavioral Biology to join our Department of Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Studies at the University of Zurich and become a key member of the dynamic research community at the Kalahari Research Centre.
Details and application👇
Our new paper examines how environmental context dependency in life-history tradeoffs impact population dynamics across species. Key insights: heightened sensitivity of slow-paced life histories and the intricate effects of intra vs. intergenerational tradeoffs on stability.

We have an open PhD position in Ecology at the University of Zurich:
Biodiversity monitoring in the Kalahari using camera traps
Interested in analysing camera-trap data, employing AI for species identification, developing statistical methods for assessing species abundance and interactions? Apply!
Rediscovered a striking phrase in Leopold's Sand County Almanac: 'skill in the exercise of bias' (in him choosing which tree to fell). This resonates well with our daily grind as conservation biologists, developing the skills for selective decision-making; choosing which species to fell or let live.
Dilşad's first PhD paper is out. It reveals seasonal movements of 8 large mammals in NW Anatolia.
Based on 11 years of camera-trapping study, led by Anıl and Alper, it highlights the need for understanding seasonal habitat-use dynamics for effective conservation. 🐻🐺🦊🦌🐗

Yes, absolutely! I’m as resident as our cranes. Looking forward to catching up!
Well, I see plenty from my office, and they seem quite resident.
Her entire testimony carries a raw, impactful force, a stark contrast to the widespread, politically charged narratives that normalises this madness. Quite surprising that CNN featured this.
These rankings have their flaws, but it's wonderful to see Ecology at the University of Zurich holding a top spot. Ecology is even the university's highest-ranking subject!
Our research and teaching programs in ecology are clearly doing a great job. 🥳

Higher mortality is not a universal cost of dispersal: doi.org/10.1086/726220
Our 32-year study of African wild dogs shows that dispersing individuals actually face lower mortality compared to residents. Time to rethink some of the long-held assumptions on cost of dispersal.
