Just finished AN ACADEMIC AFFAIR by @jodimca.bsky.social - wow! Billed as a romance but so much more. Here's to finding out about the cut-throat world of academia wrapped in an immersive plot, with a super couple and characters that will make your blood boil! Nov. 11 @atriabooks.bsky.social #ewgc

#ewgc Uzma Jalaluddin's DETECTIVE AUNTY has the things that make her other books so enjoyable--a strong sense of place (the Muslim community in Toronto and suburbs), family relationships and cultural traditions, and a woman finding her place in the world. Add in a twisty plot & nosy widow--fun!

#ewgc The 250th anniversary of Jane Austen's birth will be celebrated with Devoney Looser's excellent commentary WILD FOR AUSTEN. Deeply researched by this author and professor, it contains some topics from her previous (excellent) book with a lot of new things. A wonderful study of Austen. Sept 2

#ewgc OVERDUE by Stephanie Perkins is a slow-burn romance with a very cozy vibe that I enjoyed--I wanted to visit these places! The time-to-move-on stale relationship trope is kind of bothersome to me, but it didn't detract from the excellent plot. Pub date Oct. 7.

Without going all Martin Niemรถller here, I do think that it's bad not to speak up for immigrants, transgender Americans, civil servants, women, Ukraine, and everyone else the MAGA bullies are going after. We're beyond picking and choosing whom to defend. It's time to stand up and speak out.

#ewgc Pub date coming fast for Nickolas Butler's A FORTY YEAR KISS, a truly authentic look at a relationship over time in a small Wisconsin town. Nails it for portrayal of real struggles of a poor but determined woman and her ex-husband with alcohol problems. Great read! @sbkslibrary.bsky.social

Dealing with a severe reading slump with too many "meh" books, but I did really enjoy EVERY TOM, DICK & HARRY by Elinor Lipman. Fun stuff surrounding estate sales, small town escapades, reunion committees. #ewgc

@especiallybooks.bsky.social I've been thinking of the problem of the reading slump. I keep going back to the idea of reading as a *practice*, and being intentional about setting aside uninterrupted time. Or the book you've wanted to read forever, an old favorite, an audio? #reading

I also like audiobooks when I hit a slump, because I can listen while doing something else. How about returning to an old favorite?
