I lived in Kent for a brief period in the late 1980s and early 90s and would regularly visit the Folkestone and Dover areas to photograph railway operations in the area. In this video I will look at how the area has changes between than and now.

Unusual to see 08s on this job. Every time I visited the linkspan it was being shunted by 09s or 33/2s, or a combination of both. I remember at the time predictions of a an upsurge in cross channel freight traffic via the tunnel, which sadly never came to pass.

At least we now have 45118 back on the mainline working railtours.

Hate to think how many hours I spent photographing trains there in the 90s. All looks very different nowadays.

45118 made a fantastic racket climbing away up the bank from Ely West Junction. Worth trudging through an ocean of mud for!

You can’t hear the engines over the babbling of commentators anyway. Having a no commentary option would improve the coverage on end.

There is a dishwasher in the kitchen of my new home that I moved into around a year and a half ago (left behind by the previous owner). Never used it once. I don’t even know how to turn it on.

Quite so, that was an epic final stint he put in at the end of the race. A well deserved victory.

It did not go to well for Robert sadly, the rallying crash pretty much ended his F1 career.

An F1 fan I used to work with called him Eddie Under Achiever!
