Economic justice must include the ability to participate fully in the life of the city. That means being able to get a job, find a place to live, get a loan, grab a bite to eat, and seek help from City Hall.

@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social's vision is an NYC where economic growth & economic justice go hand in hand. Thatβs only a radical notion because weβve become so accustomed to economic injustice as the norm.

As the year ends, Iβm thinking about what a hard year this was. And how much work we have to do. Which is just one reason the inauguration of Mayor Zohran Mamdani brings me so much joy.
He genuinely believes in a world where everyone is treated with dignity and is willing to set his sights high to build that world. And perhaps just as importantly, he knows that can only happen if we dare to dream of things others have called impossible and if we understand that power must be shared.
I hope youβll join in his inauguration and the celebration, even if you watch online.
New York City, see you there!

If the US invested in child care and had national policies like paid leave comparable to other industrialized countries, we would generate $775 billion of economic activity a year. The question should not be, βhow can we afford to do this?β The question is, βhow can we afford not to?β Letβs do this.

βIn the time since, from the multiple roles she served in California administration to her time in the White House, Julie has never wavered in her fight for justice for working families. As Acting Secretary of Labor under President Joe Biden, Julie drove the strides workers made during the Biden Administration, securing over $1 billion for victims of wage theft, modernizing the unemployment insurance system, and introducing a host of new safety regulations for workers on the job.β
βWe could not imagine a more fitting pick for New Yorkβs first ever Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice. We know in this new role she will be a champion in New York for both our members and the millions who call the city home, and are grateful for the opportunity for continued partnership.β
