The night before the latest Jobs Report that showed workers are struggling while the economy slows, the uber-rich were invited to the White House. Steve Schmidt and I talked about this “let them eat cake” moment and many other things on @thewarningses.bsky.social from last week.

What a festive day to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the show.

One year ago, Dr. Jill Biden welcomed the cast of #TheWestWing, one of my favorite shows, to the White House. Chatted with Aaron Sorkin, Richard Schiff, Dule Hill about how much their work meant. @petebuttigieg.bsky.social and I had to find that big block of cheese!

It was such a beautiful day. Many of my staff who had been at the DOL for years said it was the most touching event they’d been to. Community members came from all over the country.

@duckworth.senate.gov, Kent Wong, & Saket Soni all spoke at the ceremony to help celebrate them.

Two years ago today, I inducted these incredible humans — collectively the El Monte Thai Garment Workers — into the DOL’s Hall of Honor so they could take their rightful place alongside the heroes of American labor. Today and everyday, you should be honored.

We know that when you make the pie bigger for everyone, working people don’t have to fight each other for ever-shrinking slices. We don’t need data to tell us that, but we won’t let Trump undermine all faith in data in his ongoing assault on the truth.

All of what we’re seeing from the Trump administration is a choice to put corporations ahead of caretakers, the wealthy ahead of workers, and the bosses ahead of the busboys.

The work of the Bureau of Labor Statistics to report real-time data on the labor market and jobs is complex and requires tremendous expertise, and Trump ridicules and seeks to discredit anything complex. But he does so at all of our peril.

After the disgraceful firing of BLS Commissioner @erikamcentarfer.bsky.social last month, BLS staff knew that an honest Aug Jobs Report would incur the wrath of the Trump admin. But they did their jobs anyway. Unlike Trump World, BLS employees are unwilling to protect their own jobs above all else.

The hardworking & talented investigators at the DOL have an underrated skill in convincing workers to talk about abuses in their workplace even when those workers face retaliation for doing so. Today, those investigators are the ones speaking up about abuses in their own workplace.
