I love eating salmon but I always wonder if I should just buy wild salmon. Luckily, I have Angelisa Osmond's @dalopenthink.bsky.social post to help me. From @dalhousie.bsky.social Faculty of Agriculture, she knows her fish!

Federal agencies continue terminating all funding to Harvard Agency by agency, Harvard is losing all of its federal research dollars.

The ongoing campaign appears to be heading toward a point where no researchers at Harvard will receive federal funding.

β€˜De-extinction’ isn’t just misleading β€” it’s dangerous,

A dangerous term that promotes false hope and perverse incentives at expense of existing conservation efforts proven to work

"And yet a great many citizens not only overlooked this fact, but actually regarded the men of the new regime as austerely dedicated to moral probity. Deception was meshed with self-deception in a unique structure of social engineering." A Social History of the Third Reich - R. Grunberger

Meme. Photograph of an eel under water, along a sandy bottom. The eel is yellow, and small The sand is yellow, and eel blends in. You are seeing the eel in quasi-profile; it is pointed towards your right, as if you had pointing to an interesting hot air balloon on the horizon. But it's eye is trained on you, as if you were talking.

The eel's expression is dubious, and possibly worried. To extend the metaphor, imagine that you were telling a made-up story about the time you captained a hot air balloon across the Sahara as part of a race from Milan to the Seychelles that required you to use 18 different forms of transportation, 2 of them at the same time. The hot air balloon was powered by your efforts on a stationary bike. This is a made up story, but you are telling it with enthusiasm and wild hand gestures. You are IN TO IT.

Now...imagine a listener's expression. That's what the eel looks like. Except, you know, an eel.

Meme text reads:
"Either I'm like a simile
Or I'm a metaphor"

Eels! In! Writing!

Before 1700, eels in English literature mostly appeared as metaphors or aphorisms:
- proud as an eel
- can't hide an eel in a sack
- like men stomping after eels
But after 1700, they mostly show up in science & nature writing. "Eels are elusive fish." 1/2

The World Is Moving on Without Us How Europe and China are approaching the new world order.

The United States is no longer willing to lead the world order, but China is not yet capable of leading it. Once you understand this dynamic, a bunch of things about the future become clear.
