A green handknit sweater with colourwork knitting on the yoke on a hanger off a tree in a unkempt garden. The yoke is light beige with green cartoon bear faces all around the yoke. The pattern is Tuonen Karhu by Jenna Kosted and the yarn is Cascade 220. A picture of a person wearing a grey handknit sweater with brown colourwork snakes all the way around the yoke. The ribbing around the hem and collar are the same brown as the snakes. The pattern is Viperidae by Klara Cecilia and the yarn is Woolyknit British wool 4 ply held double. A pair of knee high hand knit socks laid flat on a background of a white blanket made of granny squares and next to a sprig of green foliage with red berries. The socks are white and red with an intricate pattern of a rabbit sitting in the snow on a winter’s night. The pattern is Novita Christmas Calendar socks from 2019 knit in Novita Nalle yarn. A flatlay of a pair of handknit socks on a wooden table with a white lace doily and white orchids on the side. The socks are blue and white with a seahorse in white against a blue background, surrounded by small white stars all over the socks. The cuffs, heels and toes of the socks are blue. The pattern is Seahorse Socks by Minna Metsänen and the yarn is Novita Nalle.

A few old projects for the animal theme over at #ShowMeYourKnits this week.

Two hand knit emotional support checkens (stuffed chicken toys) sitting on a brick wall in a garden with a hydrangia, past it most vivid bloom and fading into a reddish brown, in the background. Both chickens are facing the camera the smaller one to the left, Barbara McClincluck, is knit in variegated handspun yarns with a relatively light colour shiftin in yellows and greens with wide orange bands across her chest and neck. She has big, dark brown, kind safety eyes, a red wattle and comb and a yellow beak. To the right, Dot is knot in variegated red-brown yarns with reddish orange and yellow stripes on her chest and neck and the same brown safety eyes, red wattle and comb and yellow beak.

I didn’t think I would have much for #ShowMeYourKnits this week as the theme is garter stitch - not my favourite but these two cuties definitely are both favourites and garter stitch. Mostly in handspun yarn, meet Barbara McClincluck and Dot. #KnitSky

Just to clarify in case my original wording is misleading, I did not design these mitts, just love them and noticed that the pattern is free these days so wanted to highlight that for others.

A flatlay picture of a hand modelling a bluegrey handknit fingerless mitt, posing on a wooden table covered by a white lace doily and next to sprigs of a grey-green succulent plant. The mitts have a wide section of ribbing with twisted cables around the wrist, and the same cables are repeated in the section around the thumb and fingers. Otherwise the mitts are knit in stockinette, except a panel on the back of the hand which has an interesting pattern made with twisted stitches cabeling back and forth forming six semi-abstract geometrical figures reminisent of a butterfly or maybe a flower with four petals. The mitt fits snugly around the wearer’s hand and the yarn looks like it has a light halo which is from the warm alpaca fibres in the alpaca-silk yarn.

We can’t talk about knits for hands (as we are this week at #ShowMeYourKnits) without my favourite, most worn, warmest and most comfy Wannabe Vintage mitts (free on Rav 🎉). Not sure if the warmth is due to the super fit or the alpaca silk yarn, prob a bit of both.

A compilation of four photos of mitts and mittens. Top left a pair of brown fingerless mitts, one of the mitts modelled on a hand, against a wood background. The mitts are mainly in stockinette with ribbing around the wrist and fingers and a wave-like cable pattern on the back of the hand. The pattern is the Nalu mitts by Leila Raven and the yarn in Novita Nalle. Top right is a pair of mittens in brown and beige with a striking geometric colourwork pattern on the back of the hand and a floral colourwork pattern on the cuff bordered by two-colour latvian braids. The pattern is Shine Mittens by Sofia Capelle in Novita Nalle yarn, thei beige colour being home-dyed using avocado. Bottom right is a pair of light pink mitts with a DNA shaped cable motif on the back of the hand. The cable is adapted from the Real DNA socks by Knittinghood team knit in Novita Nalle. Bottom right are a pair of rainbow coloured mitts with white ribbing at the wrist, fingers and top of the thumb. One of the mitts has the colours fading from green, teal, blue, purple, red orange and yellow from bottom to top, and for the other mitt the colours fade in the other direction. The pattern is self drafted and the yarn is home-dyed Regia 4-ply.

The theme for #ShowMeYourKnits this week is hands. I have not knit many mittens, but oh so many mitts, they are my favourite snack project and perfect for leftovers too small for most other projects. I wear mitts almost every day in my cold home office at the moment #knitsky

A flatlay image of a hand wearing a not yet fully finished hand knit mitt on a light wooden table with a white lace tablecloth and white orchid flowers in the background. The mitts are knit in a warm brown, slightly uneven yarn which has been hand spun from fluffy Finnsheep wool. The mitts are mostly finished but the ribbing around the fingers is still being knit and you can see the gold coloured double pointed knitting needles attached to the project. The mitts have a lace pattern on the back of the hands that is reminiscent of a plant with leaves, and on bot sides there is a row of extended stitches framing the delicate stitch. The area around the fingers which is not yet finished is ribbed. A small ball of the yarn is placed next to
the hand wearing the mitt, showing that the yarn is slightly under-plied.

The theme for #ShowMeYourKnits this week is firsts. This is my first knit project from my own handspun, from 2021. They are the Hiedra mitts by Fibertales in a Finnsheep DKish weight two-ply, spun and plied on a drop spindle.

A photo split into two sections, on the left a man modelling a hand knit, grey, all over cabled sweater. The sweater is long sleeved and has a ribbed turtleneck which has been folded over. On the right a hand knit long sleeved all over striped sweater-dress mounted on a hanger. The dress has wider stripes in yellows, puples, reds and oranges separated by thinner stripes in grey, and the same grey is used for the ribbing around the hem, sleeves and the V neck, and it has two patch pockets on the front around hip height, just the right size to fit a phone.

#ShowMeYourKnits this week is Knitter’s Choice and as we are at the end of the year I chose my favourite knit of 2025. Well, that was too hard so I picked two and even that was almost impossible. Chose my self drafted cable sweater for my partner and my handspun Ilo dress by Anna Johanna. #knitsky

A rainbow coloured oversized brioche knit V-neck cardigan hanging against a red brick wall. The yarn the cardigan has been knit from is a random combination of colours including red, blue, purple, pink, green, yellow and orange. It has dropped shoulders for an oversize fit with balloon shaped big sleeves coming to a narrow cuff. The buttons are dark brown wood.

#ShowMeYourKnits this week is cardigans, yay. Love to knit them, love to wear them. This is a self-drafted brioche cardigan knit using handspun yarn from a bunch of leftover wools from my stash which I spun last year on supported spindles as an advent spin #knitsky

A hot water bottle on a wood table wearing a hand knit hot water bottle cover. The cover is covered in festive colourwork patterns including a snowflake, hearts and reindeers in light grey against a background of lighter and darker blue stripes.

I didn’t think I would have anything for #ShowMeYourKnits holiday edition but then I made a hot water bottle cover as a Christmas present. The colourwork patterns are from Festive Yoke Pullover by @skeindeer.bsky.social and the yarn is Cascade 220.

A reddish brown handknit sausage dog stuffed toy sitting in an autumnal garden. The dog has a long cute snout and brown eyes looking like the definition of ‘puppy dog eyes’ in the dictionary. His ears are huge and his short little legs and paws are almost completely covered by the long grass. You can just about see the tip of his little tail sticking out as his cute little butt is sitting in the grass. The grass is strewn with yellow leaves and the bush in the background has green and yellow leaves.

Meet Baron Sniffelton III, made out of deep stash yarns and stuffed with carding waste wool, loom ends and fabric scraps from sewing. The pattern is Poklon by @ysoldaknits.bsky.social and he was such a fun knit!

A fairisle type colourwork cowl with colourwork motives in grey, green, purple, orange, blue and red with white contrast colour and white ribbing. The slightly uneven and neppy hand spun yarn makes the colourwork quite subtle. The cowl is resting on a wood background with a sprig of small white flowers for decoration. The same colourwork cowl, now densly felted and sewn into a small project bag with a metal zipper for closure.

For #ShowMeYourKnits knitting horror stories let me present this hand-spun colourwork cowl which somehow hid between dirty clothes and ended up felted after a round in the washing machine. Made it into a small project bag eventually, after being furious for a while.

My wheel is Bea. She is Dutch so I wanted a dutch name, and as the wheel is called Bliss, I wanted a name that starts with B. I haven’t named any of my spindles though…

Hand knit all-over cabled brown baby cardigan still missing one sleeve. The cardigan has two different cable motifs alternating across the body and sleeves, with deep 1x1 ribbing in the hem, buttonband and sleeve cuffs. The cardigan is a grandpa style V-neck with a cosy shawl collar. The brown yarn is subtly tonal creating areas of lighter, more reddish brown bands alternating with a darker brown reflecting the colourway name Kaarna which is the finnish word for tree bark. The pattern is Herst Cardigan by Sarah Hatton and the yarn is Novita Nordic Wool from deep stash. The yoke and first few inches of the body of a dark grey all-over cabled fisherman-style sweater on a hanger with a red brick wall in the background. The whole sweater is filled with different cable motifs placed symmetrically around a central intricate cable with five strands of cables interlacing. There are no sleeves or neckline ribbing yet and the knitter, who has self drafted the pattern is a bit ambivalent about how to proceed as she is knitting the sweater for her partner and would like it to be a great fit. The yarn is Drops Karisma in shade 16 Dark Grey. The drop shoulder yoke and first few inches of the body of a stripy hand knit tee (although you can’t tell it’s a tee as there are no sleeves yet) on a hanger against the backdrop of a red brick wall. The tee is knit in Woolyknit linen-cotton yarn held double, with relatively narrow stripes in light beige and a deep navy blue which looks almost black in the picture. The navy blue has been used to create a ribbed neckband which frames the stripy sweater in a pleasant way, and the hem and sleeve ribbing will be done in dark blue also. The pattern is Lusk tee by Rebecca Clow. A teal and white checkered fabric on a rigid heddle loom placed on a table. There are shuttles with teal and white yarn on top of the fabric, waiting for the weaver to return to continue weavingbon the project which has been left unworked on for weeks. The yarn is Woolyknit 100% cotton. Also on top of the fabric is a beautiful handturned supported spindle in purpleheart and sycamore wood, with singles spun into a cop on the spindle shaft. The singles are a mix of wool and silks, in variegated colours with black and yellow being the main colours. The singles will eventually be plied with a second strand of yarn to create a soft sport-weight two ply yarn .

What’s on your needles for #ShowMeYourKnits. Severe castonitis, so too many WIPs to show all, but here’s a few including spinning and weaving wip for good measure. Herst baby cardigan, self drafted cable sweater, Lusk tee, cotton towel and handmade leftover rolags, more details in alt text #KnitSky
