(2/2) I swear, it was wrapped like a damn lost treasure.

Well, dumped them out onto my hand only to find out it was two heavy international coins totaling a few cents… and a small collection of tokens to some arcades in San Francisco and Manhattan.

Glad you all came with me on this emotional ride.

I’m going through the desk in the study, which has been with us through nearly half a dozen moves - cross country and international - and found in the back of one drawer a bundle of bubble wrap. Inside was a glass jar. Inside that was a cloth bag. Inside THAT was a HEAVY bundle of coins. (1/2)

Just for the record - @thechildrenofash.bsky.social is moving away from D&D after the season wraps. We were midway recording when the OGL stuff came down, and decided then that we were only going to have one season of D&D. We strongly support artists and the ethical use of intellectual property.

Oh, also - it’s a Thai place. The cooking channel they’re tuned to is… German confectionary. Like, fully in German, no translation. This is both amazing and complete wtf.

There’s a brunch place we like to go to, and it’s quite good… but they always have a tv going playing gourmet kitchen shows. What a brave move. “Hey, before we serve you our food, have a look at all this amazing food we WON’T be serving you!”

Can’t say I grokked the system at the time, but it was a good time with friends.

When I was at CCP, we used to play tabletop RPGs every week - there were a few active campaigns, plus at least two or three one-shots each week, often highlighting various game systems. Was an absolute blast, and probably my favorite part about that group of folks.

Loving all the examples and walks down memory lane they’re inspiring. :) for more targeted examples - I’m thinking the meta loop specifically, so the entering of the game, handling saves/multiple characters, etc.

Yeah - think integrated into the narrative of the story world. Like Myst framing a new game as opening a myst linking book.

Pip boy is an excellent reference, thank you! Elite’s hud has already been a great reference, but also carries a lot of extra design baggage I’d like to not focus on too much (it’s a very simulation heavy game in a way that’s inappropriate for our design space). Thanks!

Working on the meta loop for a game and realizing just how rarely games try to make their menus diegetic or otherwise integrated more fully in the game world.

Anyone have any good examples y’all wanna throw my way?

My two year old tonight took over my bedtime story tonight, turning it into a different tale with an expanded cast… and then followed it up with a NEW story of a (almost) entirely DIFFERENT cast.

They barely made any sense, but I am a VERY proud parent. :)
