In the opening sentence of the article it's "cross-sex hormones," a phrase intended to depict HRT as something unnatural and experimental. One of the things I found most interesting about HRT myself is how natural it's felt. My experience was my body took to estrogen like a duck to water.

I respect and appreciate Jolyon, this is not on him. But so much loaded language here: "black-market" (wildly misrepresentative), "trans hormones" (hormones. period. the same we all have), "self-medication" (linking with substance abuse). "Long term harm," "suboptimal" leave out a LOT and mislead.

When I was 13, rather than experience the misery that I did, my entire life would have been incalculably better given access to HRT. If I had my life to live over I would do it without hesitation, knowing what I know now. And young people know what I know.

"The compromise" is extremely apt. It's not about the needs of the young people involved. And I say that from the experience of having been that young person and also having been the parent of a trans young person. Ironically those who can still manage care can have a better experience.

And it was an experiential, empirical process. Social transition, HRT, legal name/sex change, bottom surgery. I knew from the start I wanted/needed all of this, and with each step made I knew I was on the right course for my life. And it is good, very good.

I recently resigned as D precinct captain in part so I can do just that again. I appreciate our Idaho Democrat representatives and candidates a lot, but where I live we're not going to flip the district. I could be wrong, but the only hope I see to turn things around where I live is reform the R's.
