Had the best time helping dozens of amphibians cross the road during their annual migration to vernal pools (& some toads just out for the love of the game) with my local patrol group, TCAMP! Earlier this week when we went out we only saw spring peepers, this time: an explosion of diversity :)

Congress rejected massive cuts to US science budgets for 2026, but much of the money still isn’t flowing to researchers.
The culprit? The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is quietly slow-walking the release of funds. 🧵👇
Thank your NIH POs: they are working under challenging dictates, including being required to multi-year fund (and therefore cut) grants. Congress caving on MYF means that the NIH budget has been effectively cut significantly. There’s no sugar-coating this.
When you still pander to a man who PLEAD GUILTY to heinous crimes in ‘08, what does that say to survivors who have been denied justice? Why would they ever feel safe when not just one person, but the entire community looks the truth in the face and decides it doesn’t matter? Is that worth a check?
Here’s why this matters: 80% of sexual assaults go unreported because of r*pe culture, where even when people KNOW the truth, they decide it’s not important enough to change anything. We owe it to the survivors in the scientific community to reverse this behavior that has persisted for far too long.
In a Dec. 16, 2011, email, Epstein wrote to Greene, “lets do it =gain” with the subject line “fun.” Greene replied two days later, writing “Good =o see you and would be fun to hang out =gain.” 1/n
You’ve asked #ECRs repeatedly what we need - we need science to stop associating with evil for money. We also need everyone to do better about calling out evil and injustice when we see it. We have to do better.
#AAASmtg #AAAS2026
This. SNAP was incredible and gives me hope for the future of scientific organizations. The fact that #ECRs were the only ones to walk out of the plenary is telling as well.

All laid out in the article I linked
What gets me is that those of us early-career researchers and advocates who presented there didn’t know, and how comfortable they are undermining the work we did to be there by platforming a pedophile apologist in the same breath.
Unacceptable @aaas.org! Time for a clear statement about how “good scientists” don’t associate with famous pedophiles, perhaps? This speaker should apologize too.
As always, the most courageous in the room are young people so thank you to student journalists at Columbia for being the only outlet to cover Greene’s self-made fall from grace. www.columbiaspectator.com/news/2026/02...
To be clear, Greene socialized with Epstein several years after he plead guilty to egregious crimes in 2008. He has claimed that he was seeking donations from Epstein. It’s time to stop tolerating evil to secure financial support in science, and I only wish AAAS had the courage to lead.
It is beyond insulting for @aaas.org to plan to host Brian Greene, an associate of Jeffrey Epstein, for a plenary talk at #AAAS2026, then cancel it the day before, only for the replacement to insist Greene was a “good scientist” and that he wished we could all hear from him.

I should be celebrating the incredible showing we had for SNAP at the AAAS annual meeting this year, including an insightful and inspiring plenary panel, but my first time attending this conference left a sour taste in my mouth.
