Screenshot from Arda Wigs' Instagram post, dated Feb. 5, 2025: We don't like to fearmonger, but with this announcement by USPS and the additional Chinese import tariffs instituted on Feb 2 (10% on top of the 15% instituted back in 2018, for a total of 25%), it now feels prudent to make a comment on the effects the current aggressive foreign trade policies will have on us and businesses like ours. Candidly, they will put us out of business. Our company is in a much different place now than it was in 2018, and the struggles we've had since COVID have hardly gone unnoticed. We are simply not prepared to assume the additional costs of the new tariffs as we did in 2018, or weather another supply chain disruption or another trade war with China. We know that our customers will struggle assume the costs of the tariffs if we are forced to pass them on. There is no infrastructure in the US or in other neighboring countries to manufacture the products we sell, and trying to build that infrastructure without abundant resources and funding is an impossible ask. Our materials are not available from factories outside of our partner in China (trust us, we've looked), and even if they were, a partner switch of that magnitude, where quality of goods is ensured, is a multi-year operation and requires money and a budget that cannot be created overnight. Actions like these have knock-on effects everywhere, from us to customers and onwards to other businesses.

In the meantime, we will continue to monitor the situation and hope for a swift resolution. As of right now, we have not been notified that incoming restock will be affected, but we will update you if things change, and as to the impact the tariffs have on us once our products arrive. To be clear, we are not currently going out of business, but we do want you to know how these things can and will affect us if they are not resolved. UPDATE: Some of you have messaged us to let us know the parcel suspension has been lifted. That's great news, and we are happy to hear the flow of consumer goods will not be affected. Hopefully the tariffs will soon follow.
When we say that politics are personal, this is an example of what we mean.
Trump's trade war could close Arda Wigs, and I wouldn't be surprised if it affects many other wig companies. It'll affect places we buy materials for costumemaking and propmaking, too.
