Has anyone read Joscelyn Godwin's Harmonies of Heaven and Earth: Mysticism in Music from Antiquity to the Avant-Garde? Is it worth a look?
Does anyone have any recommendations on book that cover the intersection of music and the occult?

So glad @cmnpod.bsky.social mention authoritarianism!
"If you accept a world that is full of pluralities, a world that is ungrounded and arbitrary, you are left with one option, and that is to be responsible for the world."
Great episode all around, but brilliant around 26:00 -> 30:00.

There are rumours it is considering introducing a 'commercial research exception' for AI training. This would be disastrous. It would mean handing the life's work of British creatives to AI companies for free, to train their models on.

What are some depictions of magic in film/tv that you feel really captures what real world magic looks or feels like?
What are some of the most accurate depictions, or what scenes evokes the same sort of sensory or somatic experiences of performing ritual magic?

Deren also wrote about viewing artistic creation as a form of witchcraft to manipulate time and space.
I've linked to Ritual in Transfigured Time, but it's worth watching Meshes of the Afternoon, Ritual and Witchβs Cradle in sequence as they could be viewed as forming a kind of occult journey.
When she discussed Meshes of the Afternoon she framed it in occult terms, but mostly because she felt surrealism was interchangeable with occultism & that surreal objects were the cabalistic symbols of the 20th century because they both addressed the real forces underlying events.

Much of Maya Deren's work is implicitly informed by her occult practices. It's probably most notable in Ritual in Transfigured Time and The Witch's Cradle.

This kind of list makers are very petty people π

Yeah, I remember the AD&D Dungeon Master's guide which had a 'table of wandering harlots' for use in city encounters.
Things were pretty bad.
The truth is that actually writing code isn't the bottleneck in development - it's the analysis and planning. AI is solving a problem that doesn't exist, but managers like it because it seems to promise efficiency and staff reduction.

It's fascinating listening to this one alongside the original blues tune, though this is worth doing with When the Levee Breaks, I Can't Quit You Baby or any of their blues covers:

Okay highly amused watching Supernatural for the first time. Season 10 they have a tulpa mention (ugh), but then Sam says "It's not a tulpa" and Dean says to put some Schwarzenegger on it and imitates "It's not a tumour". This came out after my article www.blueflamemagick.com/index.php/20... 1/?

I would add to this that meditation is a learned skill. You don't just start off good at it.
If you find it hard to meditate, it may not be because meditation isn't for you and may be because you need more practice.
Of course, meditation may not be for you, but don't write it off without effort.

"The Fuck is this?!?"
It's what you get when a cult auteur director (Neil Jordan) collaborates with a magical realist, feminist writer (Angela Carter) to interpret a set of wolf based fairy stories.
There is really nothing else like it.
But you can also achieve some interesting things by assuming the map is the territory.
This thinking is routine in divination, but acts such as writing sigils across the city are less common.
A map, a sheet of perspex and a dry erase marker are fantastic magical tools.
Something I found when I lived in London was that maps - as abstractions of reality - are interesting things to play with from an occult POV.
Korzybski said "The map is not the territory" & that's an importing thing to understand.

A depiction of Stolas. A crowned horned owl with tall bird legs.
Stolas is a Prince out of the Ars Goetia. He can teach astronomy, and is knowledgeable about plants, herbs and precious stones. Often depicted as a raven, or a crowned owl with long legs.

I have always found that Angels have the vanity to speak of themselves as the only wise; this they do with a confident insolence sprouting from systematic reasoning.

I've only given the book a very quick skim so far, but I'm interested in what Thompson is bringing together. I'm not sure yet if it will offer new ideas, or if it will be more of a reference, pointing the reader to other texts.
I'm glad I picked it up and I'm looking forward to a deeper dive.
...and to symbolize a 'world turned upside-down' that was common to UK demonstrations. You see the same actions in the Luddite Riots, the 1727 Ipswich riots & as far back as the 1629 Grain Riots.
That being said, there's a good introduction to Anarchist thought here as well as the Pagan Revival.
For example, I don't believe the crossdressing of the Rebecca Riots was linked to pagan fire festivals. The Rebecca Riots had an undercurrent of Biblical justification.
The crossdressing was part of a continuing tradition of crossdressing to hide identity... cont

This just arrive.
My first thoughts are that it's a really beautifully designed and put together book. It's a little small, but it is a niche subject.
A quick skim has shown a couple of areas that I would question.

I really like this idea.
In the past I've tended to pursue a very stripped down aesthetic in my practice, improvising when I need tools (with a few exceptions such as a pocket knife, some chalk etc..)
I really appreciate ideas that make me re-consider aspects of how I work.
Witch Tip: Give names or titles to your tools. This can help you subtly shift away from viewing them as inert objects and begin to perceive them as active allies in your Craft.

Who was the first modern pagan?
That is, who was the first person in modern times to embrace revived pre-Christian religion?
The answer may surprise you.
