EG - social norms around smoking or drinking and driving. Those attitudinal shifts were MUCH more influential.
Perhaps parents need to model spending far less time on social media. There's quite a bit of "do as I say, not as I do" hypocrisy at play (as we discuss it on social media...) (2/2)
Everything I've ever seen/read (granted, my sociology and stats classes were...um..."a few years ago") suggests that prohibition and/or age restriction has limited efficacy. I guess from a harm reduction POV, something is better than nothing. Changing social norms seems more beneficial. (1/2)
It is undeniable that there is a) both extraordinary new concentrations of wealth and b) those benefiting don't want to share it any way.
The "Giving Pledge" was a nod to some form of social contract. Now, billionaires are walking away from it.

Of course, to begin with, prohibition NEVER works. People - especially kids - will find ways to get their hands on the contraband.
I also have qualms about the supposition that ALL social media are ALWAYS and NECESSARILY "bad" for ALL "kids".
Bans are VERY blunt instruments.
THE MIGHTY US MILITARY HAS COMPLETELY VANQUISHED THE ENEMY. WE HAVE ANNIHILATED HIM IN HIS BED. WE HAVE MADE OF HIM A VOID THAT SHALL NEVER AGAIN HARM THE FREE WORLD. WE JUST NEED EVERYONE ELSE TO DO US ONE TEENSY LITTLE FAVOR.

Brendan Carr gaslighting journalists and threatening news orgs doing their job covering Trump’s war—claiming they “must operate in the public interest”? What a disgrace this man is as he backs a demand for propaganda.

As long as the UCP stays U, polling will look like this in perpetuity. The NDP owns Edmonton. The two parties split Calgary. The NDP has a chance in Lethbridge and Banff. And the UCP owns everywhere else. Nenshi isn't making much of an impression, especially outside YEG/YYC.

Not so long ago, hugging Hitler was one of those lines you just didn’t cross.
But that’s what’s been happening with increasing regularity, revealed by a recent string of unhinged text chains among young Republicans.

"Étienne" is the French equivalent to "Stephen". Travis Etienne is Louisiana Creole. The surname is Cajun - which comes from Acadian, the Francophone people expelled from Canada in 1755.
The "proper" French is "(long A) - "tyen". Common is "A - chen". His preferred pronunciation makes sense.
i am genuinely astonished by how this guy speaks exclusively in cliches
Hegseth: "Some in the press can't stop. Allow me to make suggestions. People look at the TV and they see banners, 'Mideast War Intensifies.' What should it read instead? How about, 'Iran increasingly desperate.' More fake news from CNN. The sooner David Ellison takes over that network, the better"

Not only that, but the video is usually DREADFUL - poorly-lit, poorly-focused static video of somebody just sitting there with headphones on, yammering into a mic. And often a HORRIBLE camera angle looking up their nostrils.
The video adds NOTHING. The content is all audio.

Nick Fuentes is an outspoken white nationalist who has railed about "organized Jewry," denied the Holocaust, praised Hitler, and promoted the racist "great replacement theory" that inspired several mass shootings, but to this College Republican, he's just a funny and thoughtful role model.
