It should go without saying that El Salvador has had a serious problem with gangs and I can't imagine what the people have endured. But I just don't believe in torture. I don't believe in capital punishment either, but even that would be more humane than what they are doing in CECOT.
Recently watched a "documentary" on CECOT. I can't vouch for it, but I saw enough. It's a massive slow torture chamber. The purpose is not just to incarcerate, but to inflict suffering. Whoever is responsible for sending people there from the U.S. should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity.
A Love Supreme comes to mind. Such an intense and iconic photo that matches the intensity of the music and the man.
NEW: Four federal judges have formed a firewall against ICE in West Virginia β and say theyβll punish state and federal officials of they continue detaining people in ways they have ruled illegal and unconstitutional.

In the Trumpian world nothing makes sense because it doesn't have to. Only the will of Dear Leader matters. Our role is merely to accept and obey.
Unfortunately, MTG, you voted for a narcissistic idiot who doesn't care what you or anybody else thinks about anything.
Trump would not be President were there not a deep moral vacuum in this country.
When he says that life is about deals, that's what in practice his sycophants believe.
I'm not sure at this point whether there is even one value that they would hold to regardless of pressure.
Good for @anthropic.com !
I wrote about what W.E.B. Du Bois' Souls of White Folks can tell us about Rubio's speech at the Munich Security Conference.
I think we do in this second term see more clearly what Make American Great Again really means ...
It bears repeating
Notable in the story is that details of the policy have not been released. As reported, however, the policy will insinuate fear into the classroom and suppress free thought.
We need to be planning for the AI transition. Instead, we're going to just let it happen to us. That's what the industry leaders want and it's why they stood behind Trump at the Inauguration.
Also known to their conservative overlords as "thinning the herd".
Yesterday morning kids were sent running from their bus stop in panic because ICE showed up. This guy at todayβs ICE Out of Lindenwold protest is a must watch π. @maddow.bsky.social
A crude and heartless person like Donald Trump could not have risen to the highest position in the land without something having deeply changed in our society. Our own shamelessness and nihilism is reflected in him.

I don't know whether this aspect of the Internet can ever be "fixed", and how it will permanently change human society and culture by weakening the power of shame.
Shameless propagation and anonymous consumption in the "marketplace of ideas" means that white supremacy and misogyny are, for example, traded equally alongside multiculturalism and gender equity.
Social media enables folks to rally around these shameless "influencers", magnifying and destigmatizing their messages, and incentivizing others to do the same.
Online posting, by virtue of anonymity and physical distance, insulates the poster from traditional social consequences which might otherwise restrain him or her. Breaching of social norms, even when behind this protective shield, can actually appear courageous to some.
One cause of the "nihilism" problem deserves more attention: shamelessness. For me, that is what Trump exemplifies, even glorifies, and the common thread in the devolution of the Internet.
@cwarzel.bsky.social's piece in The Atlantic about the nihilism of current Internet culture sums things up pretty well.

Vulgarity is the coin of the realm
I will not be surprised if Trump has his lackeys try to seize voting records in the midterms. I hope state Secretaries of State and Attorneys General are prepared.
Update: They succeeded: www.mississippifreepress.org/byhalia-ice-...
Well done, sir.
I think it's time for a slow down, y'all
Thank you, and stay strong, Portland! β€οΈ
