Working on my Cat Power essay for March Xness. Hi. I'm crying.

Anyway.

December 3 is the International Day for Persons with Disabilities.

Let's NOT be shitty to disabled people online by eroding support for accommodations and questioning whether people are "actually disabled" or not, shall we?

My store ordered one copy. It didn't sell yesterday. I expect it won't sell today, either. Anyone who knows about this book talks about it with stink face and vomit finger gesture.

I was really happy to see the C12 at work today and was such a dork my coworker took a photo and put it on IG.

I hate calling food "clean." That implies the existence of dirty food, and that if my food is not "clean," it's dirty. I do not eat food off the bottom of my shower.

Is that normal?

Epic and Lovely: A Novel Epic and Lovely is the swan song of Nina Simone Blaine, the daughter of a long-dead 1950s Vegas crooner and a Texas beauty queen forty years his junior. In the wake of her unexpected divorce, Nina returns to her hometown of Los Angeles to spend her final days with The Friends of the Good Thumb, a support group for patients with A12 Fibrillin Deficiency Syndrome, a genetic disorder that affects children of much-older fathers, causes several physical deformities, and results in death around the age of forty. Written as a deathbed letter to the UCLA physician who has tracked Nina and the other Good Thumbs throughout their lives, Nina recounts her final days with the group and with Cole, the charismatic, sadistic fellow A12er with whom she has fallen madly in love, who charms and harms her in equal measures. An unlikely alliance with a tech billionaire, the return of her estranged mother, and the birth of the baby she never thought she’d have force Nina to reckon with the triumphs and mistakes of her life and to fight to leave her child in good hands.

Signed copies of my very notable small press book EPIC AND LOVELY available from Annie Bloom's and Broadway Books, both here in Portland:

broadwaybooks.net/book/9781959...

If you order, I'll throw in a sticker for rewarding my passive-aggressiveness.

Literally buying one copy of a book at your local indie bookstore can mean the difference in whether they buy future books from that author.

Already bought a copy of "Love Rebels" but want to support sustainable activism?
Buy a community copy directly from me!

I'll put it in a little free library, give it to someone who can't afford one, or donate to a local project on your behalf!

There is also a photo of a raccoon that is edited to look like it is holding up the cover of the book

I guess its Buy Books Saturday or something so I’m here to say, hi! I write books about sustainable activism and consent culture, and I would love for you to buy a copy of any of my books, particularly my most recent one “Love Rebels”!

The Party — Rumble Strip A story about a party I almost attended. And whales.

Compelling storytelling alert: this is just a bunch of people talking about a party. But there is some effervescent Vermont magic sauce happening here. Best thing I've heard in a while.

Ann Patchett continues to betray me. A book about loving your stepfather? My novel has the protagonist’s stepfather getting kicked in the nuts.

I've drawn 40+ cats reading books for authors and readers both.

$75 for a drawing of any cat (your cat, friend's cat, imaginary cat) reading any book (literary fiction, beach read, comics, academic treatise). You get the digital illustration file.

Makes a great Holiday gift. (Just sayin'.)

OK, I registered for AWP. The last one I'll ever go to.

Cupcakes at the WVUP booth for my big birthday.

If you want to invite me to read at your thing, holler.

It makes me sad that she only recognizes the big name authors who are store owners. There are actually lots of writers who are booksellers. They’re just not famous authors.

Same age. I had Beatles albums as a kid. Listened to college radio and then DJed it. Was obsessed with K Records and Teen-Beat. I could out-obscure anyone in my youth. Still loved The Beatles. Still do. I don't know anyone, stalwart indie kid or not, who hates The Beatles. WTF is he on about?

I’m still mad about that Book Gossip newsletter from yesterday. That Big 5 editors don’t want small press books to be award nominees…wow.
