Before 1964 the ladybird book of Stone Age Man in Britain showed the sarsen stones with lintels. However the design was then changed so that the lintels were omitted. Was there a reason for this? Did somebody tell ladybird that the first illustration was incorrect?

At Purton (Wilts) a map of 1744 shows the parish after the enclosures of 1738. Like your map the houses shown are actual depictions. The image shown is the manor house and church. Images from the map can be seen on the Purton museum website: www.purtonmuseumandhistoricalsociety.com/the-1744-enc...

Ninth legion's 'lost battle' found, claims Roman expert
An author claims to have found a battle fought by soldiers who went on to vanish from history.
This is one of those archaeology news pieces where it's a fascinating idea, and it's plausible, but it is pretty difficult to pin specific historical events to archaeological evidence. Or in more academic language...

Looks like a musket ball to me. Found in my garden on top of a mole hill. Placed there very carefully by a mole.
