Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina. Here’s $40B Trump’s Giving You. Trump’s MAGA allies aren’t thrilled by the prospect of our stocking up on pesos and Argentinian beef.

Bessent goes to some trouble to dress it up in the language of economics, casting it as a canny investment for America. But Trump’s been explicit: He’s doing it to prop up his buddy Milei. www.thebulwark.com/p/dont-cry-f...

Hmm. Rusty French should be good enough. Demonstrates aptitude. How are they going to verify?

“Your application said you read French. Here are some test questions in Spanish and Arabic to test your foreign language reading skills…”

Oh I’ve already seen memes using that as precedent for why this is okay. Basic logic is that Clinton had sex in the Oval Office 30 years ago so nothing is sacred anymore. Like the two things are even remotely equivalent

just curious, are they asking for French, or just a second language? Seems like they should specify what language(s) you are likely to encounter. Or is being bilingually literate demonstrating a core skill?

In Norway we had 3 options at the butcher. Local Norwegian, Argentinean at mid-price, then very expensive American. We tried the American once. No way worth the cost. The local beef tasted much better and was cheaper. Next best, Argentinean.

Building a presentation. Clearly needed 10 really tight slides. Team ballooned it to 30 because People are bad at this. Someone applied AI and presentation went to 90 slides because AI slop is worse. It just adds words. And more words.

If you are confident that a boat near Venezuela is carrying drugs, you stop it and board it. That way, you have evidence.

If you don't really care if a boat near Venezuela is carrying drugs, but you just want to kill people, you blow the boat up. That way, the irrelevant evidence is gone.

Artillery Shell Detonated Over Interstate 5 During Marines’ Celebration, California Officials Say

We love our Marines and owe a debt of gratitude to Camp Pendleton, but next time, the Vice President and the White House shouldn’t be so reckless with people’s lives for their vanity projects.

Pretty amazing display of America nava capabilities too. We can hit a fishing boat that‘s dead in the water with an emergency beacon on. The ship’s crew should be real proud of themselves.

Inventing Antifa In 2005, the Uzbek government invented a group called “Akromiya” to justify massacring protesters. Now I worry the US government will do the same.

In 2005, I wrote an article called "Inventing Akromiya" about how the government of Uzbekistan made up a group called Akromiya to justify a massacre of civilian protesters.

Twenty years later, the US is more like Uzbekistan, and I wrote "Inventing Antifa": sarahkendzior.substack.com/p/inventing-...

A Los Angeles Dodgers box score from tonight's baseball game in progress, highlighting the contributions of Dodgers batter Shohei Ohtani (3 home runs in three at bats, plus a walk because who the fuck would pitch to this guy) and Dodgers pitcher Shohei Ohtani (6 innings pitched, 2 hits and 0 runs allowed, ten strikeouts)

2025 feels like that late-stage game of monopoly where you just go round and round paying rent and utilities forever and nobody knows what the rules are anymore and everyone’s just waiting for it all to end except the one player who cheated and has all the money

I'm on record here as having being pretty skeptical that there are the kinds of smoking guns people imagine in whatever Epstein material remains, but their sheer visible, panicked intransigence in releasing it has long since gone past "odd" and into "deeply suspicious"

He walked into the waiting room, wearing sunglasses and leathers Sat next to me, and picked up the DualShock attached to the DOA demo on a side table. I was confused, so I picked up the other controller. I beat him maybe one of five bouts. He slowly smiled. Took the glasses off.

“Brother.”

Going to be hilarious when this is how the Epstein Files actually get pulled into the light.

Prosecution: Mr Comey, what ”evidence“ were you basing your “investigation“ on?

Defense: Glad you asked…

Watchdog rules Red Tractor exaggerated its environmental standards The Advertising Standards Authority agrees with River Action that the food safety body’s 2023 advert misled the public The UK’s advertising watchdog has upheld a complaint that Britain’s biggest farm assurance scheme misled the public in a TV ad about its environmental standards. The Red Tractor scheme, used by leading supermarkets including Tesco, Asda and Morrisons to assure customers their food meets high standards for welfare, environment, traceability and safety, is the biggest and perhaps best known assurance system in Britain. Part of stuffing the press pool with cranks is they get to ask "will you do [crazy thing]?" and he'll give some version of "maybe yes" even if he's never thought of it before. Sometimes it then becomes real policy. They're not reporters there to influence the public, they're there to influence him.
