Bernard Cornwell is a massive influence on me as a writer and his Sharpe series is my favourite.
As Sharpe retires my MC Roland is just about to enter the fray. A Bastardβs Bosworth coming this December!

A great walk up the hill yesterday being buffeted and battered by the wind. We made it to the top! Hope to do another route today.

I donβt use AI art for my novels.
I shamelessly exploit my very talented brother in law instead.
As you can see he is bloody good.

My debut novel is coming out this December and I am most excited.
Iβm a bit of a sleepy account on Bluesky, I struggle with all the hashtags but I hear such great things about this place.
You may like it, if you like Tudor knights, coming of age, intrigue and Bernard Cornwell style battles. #debut
I feel I should probably introduce myself!
Iβm TJ, I write historical fiction with blades and blood and I also write fantasy with Pegasus and teacups.
Iβm also a musician, D&D DM and cook but there are only so many things that fit on the page!
My debut novel is coming this December!
Sir John Cheyne aka βThe Vigourous Knightβ protected Henry Tudor at the Battle of Bosworth by placing his body between Richard IIIβs lance and Henry.
He is the mentor of the MC in my book, A Bastardβs Bosworth coming this winterβ¦

I have great fun doing this at bedtime with my little ones :). My favourite so far has been Jack and the Beanstalk from the perspective of the beans. It went very post modern!
07.08.2025 19:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Iβve come back to Bluesky and found it has been growing untended like a gorgeous garden hidden behind a locked gate.
Remind meβ¦how does this all work again?
I shall update tonight with some writing stats and go from there I think! π€

βIf more people valued home above gold, this world would be a merrier place.β - Thorin
I loved my holiday but it is GOOD to be home.
Looking forward to picking up the pen again. Or more likely tapping the keyboard!
What makes you feel cosy in these troubling times?
I like to be out in the garden doing odd jobs with a cup of tea.

I posted this a while back for 1 minute then bottled it but Iβm going to bite the bullet.
I am going to self-publish my first book.
There we go. Iβve said it.
A Bastardβs Bosworth, the story of the forgotten Tudor, is coming soonβ¦ and I canβt be more bloody excited.
Readers of historical action adventure I have two questions for you:
1. Are you here?
2. Would you like to read about a forgotten member of the Tudor family dodging assassins, assaulting castles and killing knights?
If so I may have something coming out soon for you!

Thanks for the input, I feel like itβs possible. Not optimal but you can go mad trying to be optimal.
05.06.2025 21:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Fellow authors,
I am sure Iβm not the only one tempted to be cross genre, particularly if you self publish.
Would anyone recommend it? What are the pitfalls/benefits?
Iβve discovered a new genre I love and I am tempted to try and publish under the same name.

Oh my goodness this cosy fantasy thing just keeps getting better!
It is like I have discovered that there is a single secret flavour prevalent in every single dish I have ever enjoyed eating. Cosy fantasy is the umame of writing for me. Even in my historical fiction it lurks like a delicious spice.

I am currently finishing the final edit of A Bastardβs Bosworth, the first in my Tudor Bastard series.
The next HistFic is going to beβ¦ A Bastardβs Progress. Assassination attempts, pageantry, hunting, manhunts, hangings, battles, traitors itβs got it all! If I can just keep focused!
#HistFicMay
Whatβs the next Hist Fic on my TBR?
If Iβm honesty Iβve been really enjoying Legends and Lattes as my first foray into cosy fantasy!
I like to read a variety of genres, I like to write a variety of genres. All of it makes me a better writerβ¦.
But I do need to read Simon Scarrow!

Do you have a preferred time of day or year to write?
Before my newborn recently arrived I wrote when my children and wife were asleep. Iβd do some exercise then write until midnight.
Now? I write wherever I can make it work. Family comes before all this other stuff.
#histficmay
Does your book have a song or a playlist?
Two songs by hildegard von blinginβ (not a typo :P) sum up my MC Roland as he reflects on his younger self trying to become a knight.

Do you have pictures or items from your time period to inspire you?
Sort of. At the front of my notebook I have a photo of a modern jouster and a quote from Jon Clinch - Leave the business of getting down exactly what happened to the historians. Your job is to raise the dead.
#histficmay
What do you use to write?
All the things! I love pen and paper when an idea first comes to me. Drawings, crossing out, aggressively sketched question marks.
When having a βsessionβ of an evening I prefer to sit with my laptop.
Throughout the day I use my phone to just chip at it.
#histficmay
Where do you write?
I know Iβve got a good idea when I can write on my phone. Sentence by sentence, stealing moments in the queue at the shops or while cooking tea. It means the story is there, fresh in my head.
Then at night I sit and write for an hour on the laptop at the table.
#histficmay
Sequels and prequels would you ever write them?
Is the pope catholic? [inner nerd: Actually it depends which oneβ¦]
I hope to write many more books about Roland and Henry VIIβs reign. There are battles, assassinations, kidnappings, torture, murder, brawls and imprisonment. Loads to do!
