It is getting harder though. Funny how some words are almost same or same as English, e.g. brown and pinc then you get gwyrdd and glas (green & blue). And struggling with some of the pronouns. It sort of draws you in easily, then hammers you over the head. π

The two author copies I splashed out on for Harrowfield and Twiggy Voo? arrived today. Both are 5x8 and most def. formatted and uploaded at that size. Noticed these two have just shy of 0.5 cm difference in height (ie Harrowfield is shorter than should be). Anyone else get these discrepancies?

Horror bites for an autumnal evening
3.5/5 but 4 for amazon.
A good variety of entertaining short stories for an autumnal night. It starts off with the title story, The Mistress of the Crows, a creepy, tragic, and yet eventually heartwarming tale that sets a high bar for the rest to follow and in fact it remains my favourite out of all of them. Other stories revolve around vampires, wolves and retellings (I always have a weakness for Red Riding Hood retellings) and are very much worth a read.

Full wrap of Twiggy Voo? novel. Snow covered ground in a wood with a mansion lit in the distance. In the foreground a shadowy figure is watching the house.
Back blurb:
December 1913. Since Great Britainβs defeat at Waterloo, the island nation has existed as an βarrondissemontβ of France. Dowager Empress EugΓ©nie the mother of Emperor Louis-NapolΓ©on, is hosting a country party at her Hampshire home, Farnborough Hill House. Invitations to her Christmas gatherings are coveted and this particular occasion consists of a mixture of aristocracy, businessmen and music hall artistes including the infamous Paulette.
Winston Churchill, purveyor of fine meats, and part of Britainβs underground resistance is also invited. His remit is to keep the errant Prince Eddie in check and shed some light on Pauletteβs involvement in the scandal swirling around the murder of his friend, singer Harry Fragson. However, when the Empress decides to stage her own βmurder mysteryβ as part of the festivities, a real body in the library appears. Immediately, Paulette is suspected.
As snow sets in and isolates the house and its inhabitants, can Winston save her bacon and escape a roasting from both the Emperor and the nominal King, George V?
I'm proud of everything I've written & now here's something different: Twiggy Voo?
There are doubles, mistaken identities, humour & a touch of farce in this alt history. I had so much fun writing this, blending fact with fiction & making myself laugh.

Finished @erynmccee.bsky.social 's The Woman in White. Emotive and poignant ghost story very much highlighting historic traumas of women and the failure of the establishment to recognise such (then and, to an extent, now, despite public rhetoric - justice does not prevail).
Highly recommend.

Mainly pulpy horror with the occasional foray into more contemplative stuff. Lately there's a real sense of anger at social injustice creeping into everything.
As for poor... I'm probably better off than many, but treading water month to month. Things definitely could be better.

Thanks, Eryn. Very thought-provoking questions.

Phengaris does touch on deprivation, but I suppose deprivation of love and understanding, particularly from a parent.

Image: cover for WENDIGOGO by KA Silva, illustration by Sally Jackson. Morty, an average white guy with brown hair, wearing a blue sweater and jeans, looks warily over his shoulder at the monster looming behind him. It has the skull of an elk with huge sharp antlers, glowing red eyesockets, and fangs dripping ichor. Its long arms end in wicked claws, and its ribs show through ragged holes in its pelt. A blizzard swirls in the night behind them. The E in the title is formed by a red slash of claws.
Working on the sequel to horror comedy WENDIGOGO. When an ancient Northwoods curse turns nerdy bookseller Morty's tastes to long pork, he finds bigots are the other white meat! Bloody, snarky, & oh so tasty reading: books2read.com/u/mv5BzX or graythornpub.com #HorrorWritersChat
