Clodagh Finn: If only we had hospital builder Madam Steevens in today's world
The indefatigable Grizelda Steevens managed to get Irelandβs first public hospital up and running in 1733
www.irishexaminer.com/opinion/colu...
A true hero of early C18th Ireland, improving ordinary lives through solid good works, steering refreshingly clear of violence.
Great to see Dublin's indefatigable Madam Steevens in the spotlight, thanks to @clodaghfinn.bsky.social π

My wee mum died a month ago. I still canβt believe it. Part of me never will.
Today, Iβve got to return to work (self-employed).
We have laws granting paid leave for birth - rightly so. We should also, I think, offer similar support for people living with loss.
Grief Leave.
A kindness.

Cover image of the book "The Irish in the Resistance"
Just finished reading The Irish in the Resistance by @clodaghfinn.bsky.social and John Morgan; I can't recommend it highly enough.
Brilliantly told and incredibly easy to read. Fascinating stories of a bunch of people who, IMO, had absolutely no need to risk their lives but did so anyway.
