But they were also underfunded during their time in the DOT. I'd say the DHS is a good fit.

Besides, their primary role is policing, unlike every other armed force in the U.S.

That alone is probably enough of a reason to throw them in a branch with other federal police forces...

Just because "it ain't broke" doesn't mean it can't work better. In any case the coast guard "ain't broke" now, but "fixing it" by removing them from the DHS seems to be what you're advocating for.

Appeal to tradition is like the oldest trick on the conservative handbook. You should know better.

Regardless of how the executive branch is organized, the Trump administration is at the head of it, and they are who are responsible for the policy changes that we are so against.

It's been the courts and congress it's always been the courts and congress. Whether or not the FBI or the CIA is part of the DHS, they are part of the Executive Branch. I don't think gathering them into a department is somehow making it easier for them to get away with shit.

For example, I don't think we have an entirely independent judiciary right now, and that is a major problem.

Not only do I think it doesn't matter, but I think worrying about it is actively unproductive. The issue has always been the people in charge and the policies they're pushing as well as insufficient checks and balances.

I've said it before, but arguing about whether the Coast Guard or the Secret Service or insert another agency here falls under the DHS or not seems more like a pointless exercise in trivial semantics to me.

It seems unlikely to me that the DHS would be in charge of a large operation outside of the US anyways.

Regardless, they all fall under the executive branch, anyways. Organizing agencies with overlapping missions under the same branch just seems... efficient to me.

As far as the Coast Guard getting a budget boost, that's probably a good thing. Anyone who thought they only ever rescued swimmers was wrong, they are part of the armed forces, and do transfer to the Department of Defense in times of war.

Okay then, I'll bite. I don't think I've seen a good explanation yet for why the DHS should be dissolved. Care to elaborate?
