Apart from anything else, it is a logically incoherent statement. Ref. voters are a subset of the British public, as are all other voters. It’s like saying cornflakes are very close to cereals. So yes, he is literally talking nonsense.

He uses the old trope about immigration destroying β€œour culture”. What can he possibly mean? Surely nothing to do with the colour of peoples faces? (But will any journalist put him on the spot?) The only impact of immigration on our culture throughout history, i.m.o, has been to enrich it.

Day in, day out, I speak to ordinary people who are organising to welcome the asylum seekers accommodated in their towns.

They befriend, support them, reach out to them as fellow human beings.

That's the Britain I know, the one I see around me & we never get told about on TV.

One odd thing that is left out of the small boats discourse is how much the problem was directly caused by Conservative policy – specifically Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal.

2018: 299 small boat arrivals
2019: 1,843 arrivals

Truss’s 49-day premiership: 10,523 small boat arrivals

I went past the rally in Parliament Square today. A couple of thousand peaceful protesters. Surrounded on all sides by a cordon of police, and literally dozens of police vans. This is absolute intimidation. What is happening to this country???

I am not a Green Party member but this video is great. We need more like this from all progressive voices, to call out the extreme right (ie all rw parties, currently, and their media supporters) for what they are.

I’ve just been at a meeting on UK-EU policy. It brought home to me the real divide we face. On one side, policy makers who have no idea what matters to ordinary people or how to communicate with them. On the other, ordinary people who neither know nor care about abstruse policy discussions.

They have full access to our data anyway, so what difference does it make? I vote for plastic and digital (but no requirement to carry it on your person). At best this could overturn the gerrymandered voter ID system and enfranchise the entire population at a stroke. It can’t come soon enough.

I very much suspect (due to some stylistic similarities) that Mr J O’B might be the author of the equally damning β€œGuilty Men Brexit Edition”. But of course there are other journalists (proper journalists) who could have written it…

This petty, vindictive man (and the many like him) can only ever think about small-minded solutions to second-level problems. We need politicians to be a force for good, and to speak of what they would do to make us economically, socially, culturally and morally better off.

Absolutely blown away by the incredible state of the art new media centre at @chaosgroupuk.bsky.social which I visited today. A world class facility on the Roseland, #Cornwall. Congratulations to Babs Rounsevell and her amazing team. I’m proud to call them my friends.

The Brexiters simply have to be defeated now. There is no way of accommodating their emotional outbursts with the national interest. There's no way to improve our economy while respecting their demands. So they have to vanquished.

An appropriate occasion to get out my old EU Presidency tie - designed, like so many European things, in the UK.

I am looking forward to joining this gathering today. No great expectations of the summit, but perhaps it will be a small first step in the right direction. Sadly we can already guess which voices, and whose odious face, will get the most airtime in the next 24 hours. #ChooseEurope

We have a chance to improve our relationship + trading terms with the EU, give musicians + young people more freedom and make travel easier…
And Brexiters are howling about betrayal, fish, β€˜holding all the cards’ and immigration.
Same lies. Same prejudice. And same failure if we don’t ignore them.

And still not a single media interview (that I have heard) has mentioned the B-word or drawn attention to that simple, damning graphic showing the direct, incontrovertible correlation: European and UK FOM down, RoW immigration through the roof.

One of the most odiously misguided policy announcements ever. No amount of training can make someone a *high* skilled care giver without a natural inclination to be one. Cultures with strong community cohesion and close knit family structures develop this. Sadly ours is no longer one of them.

Europe Day symbolises the values which have united and protected us with 80 years of peace and freedom, and which we must now unite to protect. The flag is still our flag. Our star is still our star.

πŸ‘"Even in Clacton, it's popular."

A UK-EU youth mobility scheme is supported by a majority of people in every constituency in GB, by all kinds of voters - and it's one of the few things the UK can bring to the negotiating table.
