Photo of Costco in downtown Vancouver with residential towers above

This breaks some people’s brains.

In most cities, Costco stores fuel sprawl & car dependency.

In Vancouver, our full-sized downtown Costco has residential towers above & a skytrain station next door. LOTS of customers don’t drive to it.

We live a block from it. We call it “the convenience store.”

These companies are responsible for more than 50% of world CO2 emissions The "Carbon Majors Database" is being used to sue oil companies, write new laws and track emissions over time.

The “Climate Majors” database for 2023 has been released. More than half of the GHG emissions came from state-owned fossil fuel companies. The western majors while still big, much less so.

Plastic-eating bacteria boost growing business of bioremediation - Nature Biotechnology Bacteria, fungi and plants can be grown and engineered to remove plastics, chemicals and pollutants from contaminated soil and water.

We need to "turn off the tap" to slow or stop the overflow of #plastics into the environment. And we also need solutions for the #plastic that is already toxifying nature. #Bioremediation - #microbes that eat plastic - is not a silver bullet, but it may help.

Trump exiting from the Paris Agreement is a bad move for the world and for the United States.

But it’s not “game over” for climate.

It’s “game on!”

We must redouble our efforts and change our tactics to move forward with effective somutions.

As we end this year, we look back on our journey so far. Are you a light giver or do you need light? Anonymous is attributed with this quote: “Don’t be afraid to be the light in someone else’s darkness.”

None of us can stop climate change alone. But together, we can stand up for science, amplify effective climate solutions, and chart the most effective path forward. Financial support from people who care—like you—is vital.

This is a challenging time for organizations working on climate change.

But now is not the time to step back, lick our wounds, or fret about the future. It is a time for bold action and dogged determination.

Please support Project Drawdown and our work in 2025.

It really is heartwarming to watch the greetings at an airport. The searching, the recognizing, the embrace, the smiles and tears … Cynicism just vanishes. People just want to be loved … and welcomed.

Any time you see an article that describes the “melting” of permafrost, ignore it. It was obviously done by an amatauer who didn’t do even the slightest bit of research or fact checking.

Permafrost, or frozen soil of any kind, thaws — it doesn't melt.

We need use every dollar and every day to the best possible purpose — and that means focusing on cutting emissions.

Some investment in R&D for carbon removal makes sense. But not billions in deployment.

We need to cut emissions. That's where the money & time are needed most.

Removing Carbon From the Sky Could Be the Next Climate Gold Rush Investors are betting that they can make a dent in global warming, and healthy profits, with companies that alter the atmosphere.

Industrial carbon capture technology is getting lots of hype and investment, but sadly it just doesn't work. And it distracts us from what does.

It reminds me of cryptocurrency. Lots of hype and money flowing, but no meaningful use case.

Saying, “Raw milk is natural! It’s the way nature intended” is pretty strange.

After all, humans are the only mammal that drinks the milk of another mammal. (And we raise those animals in feedlots.)

And we are the only mammals that drink milk at all after infancy.

How is that “natural” again?
