Got a pastry at a shop this morning, and on the counter was a sign "No Cash" and a tip jar. #unclearontheconcept

Here in #Chicago we're at the "15 degrees F and sunny is a nice day" stage of #winter

This is from the Angels camp, back in 2013. IIRC, that's Chili Davis in the background

This is one of those days when I really just want to wander off into the woods. These woods, specifically, are a path leading to the Château de Commarques in Dordogne #france

Is this a thru-line to Mariano Rivera, or is it more of a coincidence than that?

Going to head out to the Mississippi lock & dams on Friday to try and get some photos of bald eagles - they congregate there where the ice is broken up to grab fish. If you look closely at this one, you can see the younger eagles is chasing down an adult who has some dinner...

I'm of an age where, although I like my job just fine, every time anything mildly annoying happens, I reflexively check my 401K balance

We got a light dusting of snow here in #chicago the other day, and it got just warm enough to slightly melt it, and then freeze again - so now we have a kind of creme brulee crust of ice on the sidewalks. Have to crack it open with a shovel like using a spoon to get through the creme brulee...

I'm in the same boat - there are a few FB groups for areas of France that I'm interested in and nothing on any of X, Threads, or Blue Sky really replicate that experience. I have no following to speak of on any of them so at least that's not a concern

Been trying both Threads and BlueSky recently, with Threads getting more views most of the time but with Zuck's recent changes I think I'm going to be over here more often...

reminds me of the Paranoia game you ran where one of the players built openable windows into our spaceship

Been thinking about posting this for a while - I'm an American guy in his late 50's giving serious thought to retiring to #France as soon as 2026. From those with expertise to share, I'd love to hear advice; and for those with interest, I've done a fair amount of research into it already so AMA #ama

I think it was Fallout 3 where I bought either an ability, or a map, that revealed all markers, and very soon decided that I wished I had not done that... but that's all on me

Wintry photography in Chicago can be a challenge. I've got a couple go-to places where i can at least take advantage of a misty morning and some early sunlight #photography #chicago

The joys of having a 200 mm lens. Didn't make it up to Montmartre this trip, but my lens brought it (somewhat) up close to me #paris #photography #montmartre

I'd been thinking of the last few years as being like the end of the Roman Empire, but I wonder now if it will actually be like the Chinese closing off access to the outside world in the 17th century.
