- PRODUCE more food and fiber sustainably on existing working lands
- PROTECT remaining natural ecosystems
- REDUCE waste and growth in demand for land-intensive goods
- RESTORE degraded lands

Indeed, including agricultural activities could derail the whole market. It’s no surprise that agriculture most of the existing ETS exclude this sector. 5/5

It is also important to remember that, even if the government tried, it is far from clear it would be able to effectively include agricultural activities in the ETS. Measuring agricultural emissions is very cumbersome and farms are typically small for the ETS to work as intended in the sector. 4/5

Brazil is an upper middle income nation with more than 200 million people—our transport sector needs to stop using fossil fuels, our cement factories need to become greener etc. The ETS will help on that. Tremendously. 3/5

Yes, it is true that most of our emissions come from agricultural activities. Yes, it is true that agricultural activities are responsible for Brazil’s GHG emissions being so large. But this doesn’t mean that the other sectors of our economy don’t need to decarbonize. 2/5

An update on real wages.

Real wage growth continues to be strong. For non-managerial workers (80% of private workforce), wages above pre-pandemic trend after accounting for inflation.

And the reduction in wage inequality from tight labor markets of 2021-2023 has persisted.

People are posting about AC and climate so a few reminders:

- globally, heating causes 4x (!) the GHG emissions as cooling
- yes, cooling needs will grow as the planet warms, but heating emissions will still be higher than cooling by 2050
- more cooling is essential for human health on a warming 🌎
