Excited to be heading to Rapallo, Italy for @europeanisa.bsky.social Exploratory Symposia w/ @raffaelemstr.bsky.social & Prof. Lisbeth Zimmerman & others.
We will discuss role & impact of Far-Right Parties in International Relations. Thanks to EISA for opportunity π
Happy to have contributed a piece on the far right to the anniversary report of the Karlspreis. The impact of the far right does not only depend on seats or government participation. Their success erodes support for international collaboration because other parties accommodate and legitimize them.

Last, but definitely not least:
The @ecprsgir.bsky.social provided an amazing support to our workshop.
Their endorsement was pivotal to the success of the workshop - which we celebrate with a workshop dinner!
Thank you wholeheartedly for making this possible.
Iβm also deeply grateful to all the workshop participants. Each of them greatly engaged with one another's work & created a supportive & professional atmosphere.
I hope to see all their work in upcoming publications!
A special thanks to Lisbeth for her support, trust & intellectual generosity.
The workshop was the first step to discuss a promising research agenda, and I'm looking forward to continuing the conversation.
Happy that this will take place at the next @ecpr.bsky.social General Conference in Thessaloniki in August - Lisbeth and I will follow up with a panel on these issues!
Yet we need to explore the theoretical and methodological challenges of studying the international dimension of the far-right.
The "far-right" is not a Western phenomenon, but it is for sure a Western concept.
Academic debates need to consider ways to de-Westernize this research agenda.
Together, we unpacked thin/thick ideologies of the far-right, transnational coalitions and networks, mainstreaming/radicalization, institutional responses, and policy effects. We agreed that policy contexts, venues, and societal changes matter.

Grateful for the opportunity to present our draft w. @stephofmann.bsky.social & @raffaelemstr.bsky.social on ad hoc coalitions #AHCs in and across time. More food for thought on the politics of ADHOCISM and other alternative forms of global governance π

Lots of great work has been done on populism in world politics, but there's still lot to do to understand the international implications of the far-right.
Similarly to Tarik's point, these parties don't just want nationalist policies and less cooperation. They target global governance mechanisms.
Under Italyβs far-right government, Italian Liberation Day takes on new importance
Here's my reflections on celebrations marking end fascism & WWII in Bologna.
