That’s certainly an approach I haven’t tried in a long time. It would be a little awkward since I’d be paying them, but I guess honesty is the best policy. And getting them more involved in the process Is always good.

I’m feeling disappointed in myself. A model I’ve been a fan of for a while will be in town next week and she is looking for bookings.

I’m available, but to be honest I don’t have any ideas for a shoot. I follow what she does on social media, but I don’t feel like taking photos of her.

5) Models who do nude will need to adjust their expectations and either stop shooting nude or cater to the new normal. I can see the demand for a lot of modeling spots disappearing, and many models quitting. Traveling models will be hit especially hard.

4) The people who will pay significant money for nude photos will be guys with cameras, who don’t really think about the craft, but just enjoy being somewhere with a nude model and taking photos of someone nude.

3) Photographers who enjoy the experience of working with other people will turn more and more to film—but this might limit their visibility. Patron-style codependency will be important.

2) AI will be a boon for photographers who have very specific concepts and looks. I can see a lot of photographers who spend a lot of money on studios, costumes, props, etc. abandon their camera in favor of AI models in order to make their vision possible.

1) AI will have a huge impact in about 10 years. Artists are fighting the good fight against generative AI—except for nude art. It’s difficult for me to see a future in which most nude art is not made with AI, unless something drastic happens.

Shooting nude photography in Japan has been an interesting experience. There last few years have really made me think a lot about the future of nude photography and nude modeling in the future, and this is what I’m thinking right now:

I was asked for advice by an international nude model about a potential tour around Japan, and inevitably I have to disappoint them with the reality that it won’t be that profitable: the yen is very weak, there’s not that much demand for international models, and making connections is not that easy.

Still looking for options to sell my work. My goal blue is to sell digital albums of photos I’ve taken in the past, but as far as I can see my options are either doing it via Patreon or through some services in Japan or Korea. Gumroad seems risky.

If I had to give advice to younger photographers about nude photography, it would be this: if you like shooting nude photos, stay single. Never get married, especially. While there are certainly partners who understand, the large majority won’t and even those who were OK will change their mind.

I made the announcement on Instagram, and it’s been interesting seeing models reach out to tell me “Not before we do a shoot together!”… And then they tell me their rates and conditions, etc. Very bittersweet feeling.

I’m quitting photography this year. Too many headaches, too much stress. I might come out of retirement for some models, but basically I’m done.
