Even then it’s a little tricky. There are cases where the model doesn’t want to be credited for nude work, or if they didn’t like the photos. Social media also plays a role: if a model is tagged in a photo and it’s deemed to be against the rules, the model might get a mark against them.

I’ve been curious as of late about this topic. The laws are clear in Japan (OK as long as you don’t depict genitalia, ±social stigma), but I follow >100 photographers and models from China, and they seem much freer. Is it that they’re allowed to show what they like, but shooting itself is illegal?

What a strange thing photography is. If you look at a photograph, everything is there, and yet it isn't. The only thing left is a flat image of that instant in time.

There were a couple of times where maybe I could've had the chance to shoot with her. We traded messages from time to time, and I had some ideas. But now that's gone. And it's a pattern I'm noticing more and more as more photographers and models I know are quitting.

The missed chances are the ones that are really bittersweet, though. One of my favorite models announced today that she is quitting and shutting down everything related to her modeling career. And that's left me sad, because I had always wanted to do a shoot with her.

That said, one difficulty aspect of taking photos of people is managing farewells. I wish I had been able to take more photos of the models I've met. I wish I had been able to have closure and do a final shoot with everyone.

I've been lucky as a photographer that, by and large, I've been able to shoot what I wanted to shoot. Sure, there are places I wish I'd had the chance to go again to, but I have embraced the motto carpe diem in my hobbies.
