“Is this your court — or Hitler’s?”
He insisted that the German people had a right to know the truth, and that under Hitler, truth itself had been reduced to loyalty to the Führer.
Judge:
“Did you truly believe that a few scraps of paper could bring down the Reich?”
Hübener:
“I am not seeking to overthrow the Reich.
I am writing down the truth — and allowing the truth to overthrow it.”
Judge:
“The Reich does not fear your little leaflets.”
Hübener:
“Then why are we here?”
The verdict was never in doubt. All were sentenced to death.

Their aim was not sabotage, nor violence, but truth.
