Summary:
Then shuffling footsteps reach his ear, like a child trying to be quiet. The light from the lamp in the hallway, shifting. An approaching presence, then a soft knock on the door. Jayce shifts, turning to find his daughter twiddling her fingers.

“Dad?” She says, “There’s a lizard laying eggs on the window.”

Through squinting, sleep-bleary eyes, he blinks at her.

“What?”
