If one thinks further, in some aspects it could become incomprehensible how and which (irrelevant) factors go into a decision.

There is a big aesthetic appeal of determinism in law or algorithms in it which is a “high modernist” idea (James C. Scott). The appeal is that one can reduce a lot and rule a lot by having enough “rules“.

Bonne chance with that when one tries to come up with a rule for everything in real life.

Another thought, algorithms are always kind of elementary introduced as “recipes”. Now, look at recipes more closely. They work much more like a frame of reference and the closer you look the more complexity some can have, like law.

I shudder about the “AI” application.

If law would be “clear”, you wouldn't need lawyers, but it is not so, there is often a kind of interpretation happening, thus lawyers and judges, some countries juries, are needed.

I think the overlap in this was the blockchain as a kind of code as law (contracts). Problem with all written down “logic” is that they implications of them can be unintended. Thus „hacking“ is possible in both domains. (Bruce Schneier said something a long these lines).
