Sigh yeah, lots of ppl freaking out over "15 minute cities" too, like it's some evil conspiracy. I feel like this denialism is some sort of coping mechanism unfortunately translated to policy...

05.10.2023 04:19 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yeah no better reminder than nature itself. Every act matters, big or small, so keep doing what you do too!
05.10.2023 04:12 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0ouuhhh this is so nerdy and full of awesome! gratz!
05.10.2023 04:09 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0HIIIIIIIII BERRAK!!! All the awesome ppl are here!
Yeah I've been having climate anxiety since the massive fires in the Amazon a few years back. Figured that this switch might help!
The upfront cost can be pricey for now (~$18k for a single family home), so calculations have to be made on when it's expected to break even (around 5 years? it's getting lesser for sure). Tbh all govts should be subsidizing if they want rapid adoption
05.10.2023 04:02 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Yes!! I recently moved to Alberta, Canada, they have this course exclusively for women/NB getting into trades. I'm super lucky to get in!
05.10.2023 03:56 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Yay:
- Transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy
- Reform traditional ag; explore agroforestry, syntropic farming and no-till farming
- Explore alternatives to capitalism, consider degrowth, UBI
Meh:
- Carbon capture & storage
Nay (pls no):
- Solar geo-engineering
Some energy companies may allow you to generate solar energy from your own panels and "sell" the excess back to the company to gain credits, then use the credits during lull seasons like winter, essentially zero-ing out your electricity bills. Or you could generate off-grid and store em in batteries
05.10.2023 03:33 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0If you're referring to yourself as a consumer, definitely consider solar energy! Idk if your city/state have any grants for solar panel installation, but solar panels are getting cheaper / more efficient.
05.10.2023 03:30 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I'm currently enrolled in a pre-apprenticeship trades course for a taster on carpentry, plumbing, electrical and welding. So I haven't officially started a career, but I'm liking electrical and am thinking of applying to solar energy apprenticeships
05.10.2023 03:27 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0ok for the geothermal shrimp, i'm actually eyeing this project that combines geothermal energy, hydroponics and aquaculture. it's not built yet but i'm aspiring to work on it!
05.10.2023 03:24 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0thank youuu! gamedev community has been my closest group of friends and am sad to leave it, and I will cherish the precious moments we had ๐ฅฐ

05.10.2023 02:41 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0One day, the source of energy which powers up our computers to make games we love will be from infinite resources -- the sun, the wind, the water, the heat from the earth. How rad is that!!
05.10.2023 02:33 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Still love y'all and miss y'all. Games have always been my first love. Keep making amazing games. Keep us sane. Keep us dreaming of a better world.
05.10.2023 02:28 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Dearest gamedev friends: I've left the games industry to deal with the climate crisis -- am exploring a career in renewable energy -- couldn't stand feeling helpless anymore ๐ฅ (not gonna make a big deal about it on other platforms, so here's fine)
