Recently I happened to catch an episode of NewRadio - such a brilliant show! A more innocent time when we didn't yet know that Phil Hartman would be murdered by his wife, Joe Rogan would become a hugely influential podcaster promoting misinformation, and Andy Dick was an unhinged addict & sex pest.

This evening we saw a hilarious movie called "Grand Theft Hamlet" about 2 actors during lockdown who decide to stage a performance of Hamlet in GTA. The entire thing is filmed in the game.

I took my boyfriend to SDCC. He'd never been. In the airport he chats with an older couple. The man said he's got a booth. My bf said "Don't tell me your name, I'll find you." He did, it was Neal Adams 😂. For years after, every time he encountered Neal & Marilyn, they greeted him like an old friend!

I'm so glad you reposted this and the thread is lighting up with positive stories. We need this right now.

Got through it. Holy crap. So many layers of truly disgusting and horrifying behavior, compounded by the feeling of deep betrayal that comes from over 3 decades of falling for the propaganda that Neil Gaiman was a decent human being.

I'm only about ... probably a quarter of the way through and I keep having to pause because it's already making me feel so despondent and I know it's going to get much, much worse. I'm determined to see it through, though.

Two weeks into 2025 and I'm ready to pass on this one. Let's move on to 2026 and see if that's any better.

There were some technical difficulties with the audio, so they had to pause the show for a bit. This turned out well for us as the performer, Joshua William Gelb, passed the time by answering audience questions and giving us background info on the making of the show. Bonus Q&A!

Jason took me to see a one-man show called "The 7th Voyage of Egon Tichy," based on a short story by Stanislaw Lem. It was created as "quarantine theater," originally performed via streaming (now live). It combines performance and video to create a funny, weird, tight little show. It was fantastic.

Went to MoMA today to see Christian Marclay's The Clock. I saw 80 minutes of it in 2013 (from 1:50-3:10am). Today we watched it for over 4 hours - from about 2:40pm to 7pm, when MoMA closed. If you love film and are in NY before Feb 17, I highly recommend it: www.moma.org/calendar/exh...

When they said the judges would be judging blind, I thought that meant that they wouldn't be told who made which dish. But they actually have blindfolds on and can't see the food at all, so they have to judge it entirely on taste! (Plus someone has to feed them, which adds extra humor.)

After the Black Spoons get reduced to 20, they each go head-to-head with one of the White Spoons. Both chefs make a dish using the same primary ingredient. The judges taste these while blindfolded and choose a winner. If there's a tie, they debate until they agree. This continues to be amazing.

This is nonsense. Olives and Tomatoes are on twice as many slices as everything else.

Netflix recommended a show called "Culinary Class Wars" which sounds bonkers: 100 chefs compete, 80 "unknowns" in team Black Spoon pitted against 20 celebrated/celebrity White Spoon chefs in a "Class War". But, 2 eps in, it's way more congenial than described and also more emotional than I expected!

But is the plural "person of interests" or "persons of interest"?

That's a complicated question to answer. On one level, it's probably "bittersweet". But also, these characters are robots, so it kind of hinges on what you think about how robots "feel". And on another level, the robots are stand-ins for "what it means to be human". So 🤷‍♀️

The second show was "Once Upon a Mattress", which was a great showcase for Sutton Foster's many comedic talents. It seems highly influenced by English pantomime - farcical, broad humor.

Last week I saw two musicals. "Maybe Happy Ending" was nicely put together, but with so many conflicting feelings about AI brewing right now it was hard to avoid seeing it through that lens. Maybe that's somewhat intentional, but it feels like it hits differently than it was meant to.

And there's a new book, too! Have to start planning for some more stressful, hard-to-fall-asleep nights 😬 But I think I'll wait to get it until the next time I'm in the UK. Will have to just read them here on Bluesky until then.
