I checked this out and as I suspected, the image moment is choppy. While the upscale to 1080 will yield better resolution it is too distracting to watch with it jumping. An old PAL encoded videotaped programme has a 50Hz interlaced video signal & will not run smoothly using progressive scan. 🙂

I watched this excellent Blu-ray again last night. I first saw the movie when it was shown as 'The Grip of Fear' on LWT on Sat 27.09.69, then again on ATV on Sun 15.08.71 when it replaced the billed 'Hitler' movie. Thanks to @simoncoward.bsky.social for finding the elusive second TX. 🙂

Interesting. But if it is 1080p instead of 1080i, while you benefit from the upscaling, you might introduce a movement issue as the 50Hz image will be deinterlaced. #BrianClemensThriller.

I caught two television broadcasts of this movie, first when I was 8, & then again at 9-yrs-old. Ross Martin scared the hell out of me. It took me years to find it again because it was shown in the UK as 'The Grip of Fear'. Now I have this gorgeous Blu-ray disc from @indicator.bsky.social. 🙂

Accurately described @martinmauthor1.bsky.social. It being filmed on 16mm meant it always looked a bit grainy & washed out on broadcast. The colours pop in the new transfers & at first glance one could now think it was shot on 35mm. The sound is much cleaner & clearer too. 🙂

The 'clean-up' of 'The Professionals' compared to the battered prints doing the rounds previously for broadcast and commercial release is certainly 'night and day'! Nice restoration featurette on the Network blu-ray final release too.

Though your TV Times draws eyes to the page, the synopsis was overblown IMO, unnecessarily giving away much of the story. The teaser in the London edition for the premier (and only broadcast to my knowledge) on Sunday 26.11.72 at 11.15 pm was just enough to draw me in to watch. 🙂

Despite a writers' brief of each story having to be standalone to accommodate such scheduling, it is inevitable that any loose continuity will be lost. Granada broadcast 'Identified' then 'The Dalotek Affair' then 'Exposed' for the first three consecutive weeks during its repeat run in 1986. 🙂

Border had one of the oddest examples of scheduling. After episode 2 (Exposed) showed Paul Foster joining SHADO in episode 3 he was trying to kill the man who appointed him! Kill Straker was produced much later than Exposed and should be shown much further in the run.

Border TV was the joint first channel to start showing Gerry Anderson's UFO in September 1970. After a strong start though screenings became more sporadic with a few new episodes mixed with repeats. It didn't complete a first run until May 1975, almost 5 years after starting.
