Given that elections have been drawn into question, specifically with electronic voting, how would you prefer the vendors to market their services?

There are reports that the *entire* office of special education at the US Dept of Education has been cut. These hardworking folks ensure kids with disabilities get equal access to a quality education.

America’s children deserve better than this.

Legal history on this period is William Forbath Law and the Shaping of the American Labor Movement. On the transition from the Knights of Labor to the AFL I also like (in addition to Montgomery) Gerald Grob’s first book Workers and Utopia.

Goodwyn’s Populist Moment has a good chapter on the Southwest railroad strike. The larger context and dramatic union narrative in which to understand it is Montgomery.

Mike Glass and I argue for @phenomenalworld.bsky.social that we’ve tried the #abundance incentive-based approach to housing crises before. But lack of oversight + incentives produced fraud, profiteering, and inflated rents -- and the Trump family fortune.

In the aftermath of the subprime mortgage collapse, the goals of national housing policy have swung from expanding home ownership back to increasing the supply of rental housing. Given the return of this goal, the history of public-private rental housing merits reflection. The midcentury FHA scandals show that loosened regulations and public subsidiesβ€”the main planks of today’s abundance agendaβ€”are not enough to deliver sufficient affordable housing. Fred Trump did not just exploit the FHA system; he embodied its core logics of liberalized credit, socialized risk, and privatized profits. Trusting the same class of builders and recycling similar incentive schemes would be a mistake. Because developers, homeowners, and local governments are all deeply invested in maintaining or boosting property values, clearing out regulations and pouring in subsidies risks fuelling the same kind of speculative, profiteering frenzy that defined not only the windfall profits scandal but also the 2008 financial crisis.

Only the U.S. government could turn competition within the labor movement into something akin to competition to certify a class in a class-action plaintiff’s suit. And yet it’s not clear to me that’s set back labor in the U.S. anymore than in any other advanced capitalist county.
