The true GOAT

An enormous goat made of straw blanketed in snow. Text says: This large Yule goat made of straw has become famous for its annual construction and the repeated attempts to burn it down.

Every holiday season since 1966, the city of Gävle, Sweden, has erected a giant Yule goat made of straw in the town square.

Gavle Goat still there!

Redigerad version av John Bauers framsida till 1910 års upplaga av tidningen "Julbocken". Oeiginalet visar tre personer ute i snön om natten, med en stjärnspäckad bakgrund. En person utklädd till julbock räcker över ett paket till två små barn. Flickan gömmer sig bakom pojken, som ser lika rädd ut han. Personen med bockmasken ler, men det syns inte för barnen, utan bara för den som betraktar scenen från sidan. I min version så har allt barnen, bocken, snön, träden och till och med stjärnorna omvandlats till kolsvarta silhuetter. Det enda ljuset kommer från himlen, som är en knottrig blandning av vitt och grått.

Satt och jobbade med en John Bauer-målning häromdagen, och råkade producera den här silhuetten när jag satt och justerade lagren.
Det passade inte in där jag skulle använda bilden, men jag gillade den, så ville dela med mig av den.

Really interesting when you think of how last year’s Gävlebocken was devoured by birds.

När Söderhallarna skulle bygga julbock på Medis 1992 gick uppdraget till Bajen Fans. De grönvita knegarna var inte sena att utnyttja förmånen gratislunch (med given bira till), något som ej föll i god jord. BF-bocken blev klar men brann sedan upp strax efter julafton. Fett äkta!
