The most evil monster in America today is the Republican Party and their evil media.
If you really want to know who the Republican Party is?…listen to their accusations of the Democrats.

This administration is committing Watergate level crimes multiple times per week—and those are the ones we know about. It’s crazy to think about what else will come out after.

It’s absolutely essential these criminals are held responsible for their crimes. We must end elite impunity.

Pete Hegseth Halted US Efforts to Limit Civilian Deaths Ahead of Iran War People who were tracking civilian casualties have been reassigned to other jobs, says journalist Akbar Shahid Ahmed.

The Trump administration has reassigned people within the Pentagon who were tracking civilian casualties to other jobs. Other teams in charge of assessing whether a strike is proportionate or legal are also no longer in place, putting civilians and U.S. service members at greater risk.

Do I Have the Right to Film ICE? Despite government attacks against protesters and the press, documenting interactions with law enforcement and federal agents is protected by the First Amendment. Here’s what you need to know.

Yes.

ICE agents don't get to carve out a First Amendment exception for themselves.

The 14th Amendment is clear: The Constitution, not the president, defines who is a citizen.

Birthright citizenship is central to who we are as a country, and we're fighting to protect that right at the Supreme Court.

This woman, US citizen living in Skokie, was detained at Ohare yesterday, taken to Broadview, then transferred to a detention facility in Wisconsin, now released. We know all this not because of DHS, who repeatedly denied that they even had her, but because her phone was pinging in those locations.

Your Questions Answered: Can Congress Stop President Trump’s Illegal War Against Iran? Amid President Donald Trump's unconstitutional war against Iran, ACLU experts break down who has the power to declare war — and how Congress can assert its war powers. ACLU experts explain constitutional war powers, how Congress can rein in the president’s illegal war with Iran, and how it impacts our rights at home.

The Constitution unambiguously gives only Congress the power to declare war.

Our elected leaders in Congress must reassert their role as the people's representatives and take action now before more lives are lost.

I currently have a newsletter in which I write regularly about how societies devolve into authoritarianism & what that means right now in the US & around the world. It also features essays about my unsettled childhood in West Virginia. Soon, it will also include art, surprises, & links to resources.

Black graphic with a photo of a young Rev. Jesse Jackson in a suit speaking into a set of microphones with his fist in the air and white text reads "Hold your head high, stick your chest out. It gets dark sometimes, but morning comes. Keep hope alive." The quote is attributed to Reverend Jesse Jackson, civil rights activist

We mourn the loss of the Reverend Jesse Jackson, who played an extraordinarily consequential role not in only advancing our nation’s civil rights, but also strengthening our democracy.

Man, expectations are so low and I understand. People have been so beaten down politically that they think that nothing will be changed. But WE are the ones who have to push them to enact the policies they commit to. Nothing will 'just happen.'

Map showing tens of thousands of protests across the US between Trump's inauguration last year and January 31, 2026.

The volume & geographic distribution of protest nationwide during year 1 of Trump's second term was extraordinary.

The cover page for a discussion paper called "Questions, Answers, and Some Cautionary Updates Regarding the 3.5% Rule" by Erica Chenoweth. In the image, peaceful protesters can be seen in front of the US Capitol building.

Lately I've seen many references to the 3.5% rule. A few years ago I pulled together this Q&A on potential uses and misuses of this statistic. www.hks.harvard.edu/sites/defaul...
