There's a new version of the AllMaps editor out, which means I'll need to update my SLV georeferencing documentation! It works the same, but some things have been moved or added. Now includes a 'search' option in the georefencing panel that should make it easier to match maps.

What could go wrong?
The software, used by school libraries as catalogs, added new features including “AI-driven automation and contextual risk analysis,” which includes “sensitive material marker” & a “traffic-light risk ratings” system.

We’re launching our new catalogue on Monday 8 December.

To keep our collections safe while we do this, access and ordering will be suspended for a week before launch and all requests for 8 December onwards must be made on the new system when it launches.

Academic research is publicly funded — why isn't it publicly available? In the US, your taxes fund academic research at public universities. Why then do you need to pay expensive, for-profit journals for the results of that research? tldr; these days they are more likely than a regular journal to check for image duplication, and they charge "authors" $300 if they find it!

I live in a world where scholarly publishing is operated as a market, and that market is controlled by conglomerate publishers, some of whom are "non-profit".

I fail to see how this differs from anything we've seen over the years - it's still bundling, you still can't curate your own collection or buy individual titles, you're still paying for a bunch of books you don't want in order to get access to the ones you do...
