The Autonomy Project started in a single room, with a handful of queer folks and a dream.

Now we’ve hosted hundreds of events, welcomed thousands of people, and built a space where showing up as your full self is the standard, not the exception.

Thanks for building it with us.

We’re not just reflecting. We’re making room. We’re staying in the work.

Black liberation is queer liberation.
Not just today. Always.

If you’re Black and queer, if you’re trans, if you’ve been watching from the sidelines unsure if this is for you: you don’t need to prove anything to belong here. Your voice, your joy, your grief, your leadership, and your rest matter. This space isn’t complete without you in it.

We know we can’t fix that with one post or one event. But we can tell the truth. We can look at spaces and ask who they’re really built for.

And we can say this, directly and without conditions:

Queer and trans folks of color have shaped everything from our fashion to our language to the bones of this movement, and too often, they’re still the last ones to be centered when decisions get made.

This day holds multitudes. Celebration and sorrow. Rage and resilience. It's not clean or easy or PR-friendly. And it shouldn’t have to be.

Because while the world has never stopped borrowing from Black brilliance, it still struggles to make space for Black presence. Black leadership. Black safety.

Juneteenth isn’t just a day on the calendar. It’s a checkpoint in a struggle that never really paused.

Freedom didn’t land all at once. Not in 1865, and not now. It came in fragments. With loopholes. With conditions. And for Black queer and trans folks, it’s still showing up in pieces (if at all).

We had such an amazing Pride with you all, but we unfortunately have to report that most of our photo booth props have gone missing.

Namely, over $150 worth of clack fans! These were the most popular props for photos. Can you help us replace them?
