The Laken Riley Act echoes collective responsibility in the way the prison has been used to detain Muslim men and boys in the War on Terror.

Finally, writing has become a love of mine and a discipline and I take heed from the great James Baldwin, whose words always inspire me when I feel like I'm writing into an abyss.

The 5 modes of violence that I identified include:

One of the ways I approached writing my book so that it could provide continued relevance in understanding the War on Terror, was to develop a taxonomy of the War on Terror & corresponding modes of violence as a framework for understanding the violence in the last two decades+ and as it continues.

We are thrilled by the news that 11 Yemeni Guantanamo prisoners have been transferred to Oman, where they can hopefully start to build a new life. With that said, we know from working with survivors, however, that life after Guantanamo is full of trauma and struggles.

Finally, while this latest transfer brings the Guantanamo population down to 15 men, we must continue to push for the closure of the prison and the base, not just because of the brutal detention of the Muslim men housed there, but because of its use as a site for detaining and abusing migrants.

So the Guantanamo chapter, is far from over, for the men just transferred and the other survivors who have struggled for years and decades.
