Being coronated before adulthood had affected Tenel Ka way more than she cared to admit. She had been mature for her age, but the nonstop barrage of events that began with the Yuuzhan Vong invasion broke her down over time, chipping away at her spirit and the small network of family —

Her disguise was drastic, but that was what it took for her guards to let her out on the grounds of the hotel on Coruscant without them.

Little did they know she had slipped out to the Skydome Botanical Gardens instead of staying close by.

Years as the Hapan Queen Mother had taught Tenel Ka Djo how to hide her eyerolling at overinflated senses of ego & pointless, laughable, self-proclaimed titles but that didn't mean she didn't find it difficult at times.

It took so much for her to accept just smiling and nodding.

Something that had become second nature to Tenel Ka was braiding her hair one-handed. It had mainly been thanks to Jacen's brother Anakin so long ago, but she never forgot the kind gesture of his.

Braiding was a tradition for her most mornings, as was unbraiding in the evening.

The Queen's Pageant was approaching and while that meant way-too-long gown fitting appointments, it also meant meeting all the newest suitors. And that was always a... treat.

This was our very first photo posted for the project back in November of 2016!

Gadell had told her what her schedule was and it was even more dreadful than the day before, so he proposed that every sigh and eyeroll she successfully held off on doing would be rewarded with Corellian Ale later.

That was acceptable. At least it would get her through the day.

Tenel Ka sat in front of the open doors that led to the balcony, hand fiddling with the gort eggshell necklace laced around her fingers and eyes locked on the horizon outside.

She should be going over the meeting notes from earlier that day, but her mind was elsewhere.

The overcast sky was perfect weather for dozing on the chaise lounge in the courtyard at the fortress. Napping was a luxury she barely got to partake in and something many people she knew seemed to take for granted.

"Three dessert courses. No less. It is more often than not the only thing I have to look forward to at these banquets."

She had fallen asleep during a meeting earlier in the day and while she would have felt guilty for that during her first couple years on the throne, she felt nothing regarding it now.

Morning meetings had replaced her normal early routine of a run and some Hapan kickboxing practice, but she had finally convinced the councils to reschedule them. She wanted some sense of normalcy in her life once more.

There were some things she would just never get used to.

The grass of the gardens felt cool on her bare feet as she finished up an evening walk, stifling a yawn after entering the palace for the night.

Part of her wanted to go back out into the city in disguise but she had been so tired that day that falling into bed seemed better.

It had been her father and mother's anniversary recently and she had spent the day making a new set of armor according to the traditions of her mother's people — her people.

The Queen Mother had grown quite sick of wearing gowns.

Her advisors told her not to bring Allana to the meeting that evening, but she was tired of trusting the nanny droid (which could be easily deactivated if one knew how) and the guards (who knew if any of them were her grandmother's supporters) so they would have to deal.

Allana would behave.
