i'm new to "design", and the lesson i unexpectedly keep learning over and over is that the UI should actually reflect the data model. when i try to hide the underlying model fearing it would be confusing, it actually ends up way more confusing and cause contradictions than if i had just embraced it

I feel like this storm they did a decent job, but the one before I was like… hey wait, I pay property taxes and yall didn’t do nothing. And I say this as someone who walks and bikes 80% of my trips!!

It would load the table in decent time! But it was stuck in a loop where it would then load it again, and again, and again.
(Different from the Database Manager, which can take 10-20 seconds to get table details, even for modest tables in the ~1-200,000 record range)

It beachballs when you click on a single table name in the database manager :-(
(These are not big tables!)

I love QGIS and I'm trying to get our sponsorship renewed. But for heaven's sake it could not be a worse experience to load a single Postgres table. It is currently loading the same table over and over and over again, a blocking activity, so the whole thing is locked out

Yes! IMO it does it by inconveniencing the bikes, rather than the device doing the hooking, the car. I’d love it if we could make the car wiggle, not the bikes!

E.g. the cars can be asked to slow down to privilege the bikes, not the bikes asked to slow by the roadway.

Ah sorry, I’m not sure what country you are in so the comparisons are hard. Here in the US they are very legal (“class 1” e-bikes)

The speed of the cars comment is about how we privilege that form of transportation, and add inconveniences to the other forms of mobility as “protection”

The video seems decent! The ones they’ve implemented around here— thankfully very few— are much tighter. I’ll try and snap a photo next time I get one.

On the cargo bike, usually around 18mph in suburban areas like the photo. Way slower than the cars!

Super neat! I love that it has historical events mixed in as locations. Having the art fair marked out is neat too.

Why does the bike have to slow down with a 45º turn? Why can't we go straight and normal speed, and the cars get a change that makes them corner slower?

What fun, weird features would you include on a print map of a town? Tree types? Real local-knowledge landmarks? Commercial property owner names? Visually name local businesses? Sledding hills?

A sort of Venn-ish diagram with two overlapping circles, one for AI maximalists and the other for AI skeptics. These are presented as thesis and antithesis. Each contains various qualities attributed to the shallow booster or the shallow skeptic, such as “Considers bad arguments against AI maximalism equivalent to good arguments for it” and “Advocates an IP law framework so harsh and intrusive that it makes Metallica seem like Phish”. Then, off to the side, there’s a third bubble that clearly represents a self-regarding author, and lightly satirizes my own sort of annoying “enlightened centrist” views, with entries such as “Knows that AI is just fancy curve-fitting and also knows that curve-fitting is crucial to addressing certain problems”. The overall tone is a sort of overly sincere look at different views in such a way as to make everyone as angry as possible.

Okay, folks. I’ve been asked by a lot of friends who aren’t following the AI discourse to sort of clarify what the main camps are arguing, how they approach the issues, etc. As a thoughtful observer, I’m happy to provide this orienting service. No questions or comments, please. Hope it helps!
