i'm new to "design", and the lesson i unexpectedly keep learning over and over is that the UI should actually reflect the data model. when i try to hide the underlying model fearing it would be confusing, it actually ends up way more confusing and cause contradictions than if i had just embraced it

The feeling after being sick is pretty good and a nice reminder.
I hope you feel better soon!

Watermark errors | Elastic Docs When a data node reaches critical disk space usage, its disk-based shard allocation watermark settings trigger to protect the node's disk. The default...

I wish Postgres had this feature: www.elastic.co/docs/trouble...

"95% flood-stage: Elasticsearch sets all indices on the affected node(s) to read-only. The write block is automatically removed once disk usage on the affected node falls below the high watermark."

I feel like this storm they did a decent job, but the one before I was likeโ€ฆ hey wait, I pay property taxes and yall didnโ€™t do nothing. And I say this as someone who walks and bikes 80% of my trips!!

It would load the table in decent time! But it was stuck in a loop where it would then load it again, and again, and again.
(Different from the Database Manager, which can take 10-20 seconds to get table details, even for modest tables in the ~1-200,000 record range)

It beachballs when you click on a single table name in the database manager :-(
(These are not big tables!)

I love QGIS and I'm trying to get our sponsorship renewed. But for heaven's sake it could not be a worse experience to load a single Postgres table. It is currently loading the same table over and over and over again, a blocking activity, so the whole thing is locked out

28.12.2025 20:49 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Yes! IMO it does it by inconveniencing the bikes, rather than the device doing the hooking, the car. Iโ€™d love it if we could make the car wiggle, not the bikes!

28.12.2025 20:35 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

E.g. the cars can be asked to slow down to privilege the bikes, not the bikes asked to slow by the roadway.

28.12.2025 19:59 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Ah sorry, Iโ€™m not sure what country you are in so the comparisons are hard. Here in the US they are very legal (โ€œclass 1โ€ e-bikes)

The speed of the cars comment is about how we privilege that form of transportation, and add inconveniences to the other forms of mobility as โ€œprotectionโ€

28.12.2025 19:56 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 3    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The video seems decent! The ones theyโ€™ve implemented around hereโ€” thankfully very fewโ€” are much tighter. Iโ€™ll try and snap a photo next time I get one.

On the cargo bike, usually around 18mph in suburban areas like the photo. Way slower than the cars!

Super neat! I love that it has historical events mixed in as locations. Having the art fair marked out is neat too.

28.12.2025 18:34 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Why does the bike have to slow down with a 45ยบ turn? Why can't we go straight and normal speed, and the cars get a change that makes them corner slower?

28.12.2025 18:32 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 3    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

What fun, weird features would you include on a print map of a town? Tree types? Real local-knowledge landmarks? Commercial property owner names? Visually name local businesses? Sledding hills?

A sort of Venn-ish diagram with two overlapping circles, one for AI maximalists and the other for AI skeptics. These are presented as thesis and antithesis. Each contains various qualities attributed to the shallow booster or the shallow skeptic, such as โ€œConsiders bad arguments against AI maximalism equivalent to good arguments for itโ€ and โ€œAdvocates an IP law framework so harsh and intrusive that it makes Metallica seem like Phishโ€. Then, off to the side, thereโ€™s a third bubble that clearly represents a self-regarding author, and lightly satirizes my own sort of annoying โ€œenlightened centristโ€ views, with entries such as โ€œKnows that AI is just fancy curve-fitting and also knows that curve-fitting is crucial to addressing certain problemsโ€. The overall tone is a sort of overly sincere look at different views in such a way as to make everyone as angry as possible.

Okay, folks. Iโ€™ve been asked by a lot of friends who arenโ€™t following the AI discourse to sort of clarify what the main camps are arguing, how they approach the issues, etc. As a thoughtful observer, Iโ€™m happy to provide this orienting service. No questions or comments, please. Hope it helps!

Is Your Medication Made in a Contaminated Factory? The FDA Wonโ€™t Tell You. The agencyโ€™s decision to conceal drug names on inspection reports has prevented doctors, pharmacists and patients from knowing whether medications made overseas are tainted by manufacturing failures t...

THREAD: Just about every one of us has a bottle of generic medication somewhere in our house. But how much do we know about who made those drugs, and how?

The @fda.gov has made it difficult to find any of those details. 1/
