With humans; A check on population comes in the form of war, famine or pestilence (disease), otherwise the population raises exponentially with high relative speed.

For me … it’s the global population is the issue. Humans are at 8.3 billion. Most researchers agree that for all humans to enjoy a high "North American" or "European" standard of living sustainably, the population would need to be significantly lower than it is today.
